Coronation Street star’s heartbreak over co-star’s tragic death
Waterloo Road actress Lorraine Cheshire died at the age of 65 after finding fame in her role as Fleur Budgen from 2007 to 2012 in the school-based Channel 4 drama
A Coronation Street star has spoken about their heartbreak over their co-star’s death. Actor Reece Dinsdale left a moving tribute as he has expressed how sad he is to have learned that actress Lorraine had at the age of 65.
Her partner John Dixon shared the sad news on Facebook, writing: “The love of my life passed away early this morning 46 years, and now my heart is broken. To the green fields beyond.”
Lorraine was well known for her character of Fleur Budgen from 2007 to 2012 in the school-based drama Waterloo Road. She also played the role of Sue Benson in the Sky sitcom Trollied and appeared with Reece in the BBC drama series Moving On.
Actor Reece, 66, who starred as Joe McIntyre on the cobbles from 2008 until his character was killed off in 2010, paid tribute to the actress. He wrote: “Lorraine Cheshire. @chesloza Such a kind soul and talented actor. So sad. May you rest in peace, Lorraine. xxx.”
Fans took to the comment section to share their own sweet messages about the star. One person said: “Fabulous in Early Doors and Waterloo Road. Rest In Peace Lorraine, Thank you for being a shining star! She was a lovely, lovely woman. Thoughts with her family.”
As a second added: “Awful news. So so sad. Lovely person. Go well Lorraine.” Lorraine started her acting career at the age of 35 and landed her first role a few years later in BBC series Cranford.
She had several big appearances during her career such as in Holby City, Clocking Off and a main role in sitcom Early Doors. She then joined Waterloo Road as English teacher Fleur Budgen in 2007, which she played for five years.
Lorraine started working on Trollied in 2011 and starred on the series until its finale back in 2018. Lorraine’s Early Doors co-star Christine Bottomley shared an image of a lit candle alongside a glass of brandy and coke on her Instagram Stories as she shared a message following her death.
She simply wrote: “No words today,” along with a broken heart emoji. Actor friend, Anthony Crank, also said: “Just heard the horrific news that beautiful Lorraine has passed over.
“One of the kindest, funniest, beautiful and caring souls I ever had the privilege to know. My heart goes out to John and all that knew her. This week is awful, just hell on earth. Please give your loved ones the biggest squeeze tonight. REST IN POWER YOU ABSOLUTE QUEEN.”
