Isn’t Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) long overdue for a little bit of romance on Coronation Street? Be careful what you wish for…
Leanne’s got a track record for relationships that would give an episode of Love Island a run for its money.
Her past conquests includeRowan the creepy cult leader as well as childhood sweetheart and ex-husband Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) who jumped into bed with her sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) – not to mention her turbulent marriage to troubled Peter Barlow and fling with Corrie legend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson), which led to the heartbreaking death of their baby Oliver.
But love is on the cards for our Leanne, which will be a welcome distraction from doling out some vigilante justice to twisted paedophile Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon)
Executive Producer Kate Brooks recently teased a ‘ruthless’ new beau for the Classic corrie character, with a family connection to Alya Nazir (Sair Khan).
‘We have Idris. He’s Alya’s cousin. He is very, very charming. The charm oozes out of every pore of this guy,’ Kate teased.
‘He’s a savvy kind of business guy, he’s got a bit of a ruthless streak, he’s not ready to get his hands dirty slightly, but he can charm the birds from the trees.’
‘He’s a new love interest for Leanne,’ Kate explained. ‘The attraction is instantaneous. It gives Leanne a new lease of life.’
Sound too good to be true? Clearly this isn’t your first time on Coronation Street.
In upcoming episodes, this dashing newcomer makes his debut when he comes to Brody’s rescue at Speed Daal when a group of rowdy businessmen are causing trouble. He takes charge and kicks the men out, before being greeted by a big hug from Alya. This is the first time Leanne notices Idris.
The second time is when a thug threatens Leanne and she sends him packing, impressing Idris. He invites her for a drink int the Rovers.
They get on like a house on fire and sure enough, Idris leans in for a kiss.Is love on the cards for Leanne?
To Leanne’s surprise, Alya is shocked to learn of her locking lips with Idris and warns her to steer well clear….
… and we soon realise why when Idris heads down the street, only to start flirting like crazy with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford)
Leanne has clashed with the Queen of Soap Bitches before, notably when she was attacked by a raging Tracy after sleeping with Steve McDonald. While our Lea is more than a match for Tracy, it’s probably a bad idea to fight over a fella with a woman who bludgeoned her philandering boyfriend Charlie Stubbs to death during a strip tease.
Idris is playing with fire by flirting with two of the most badass women on Coronation Street. Is Leanne about to get her heart broken?
