Good Morning Britain fans were left up in arms after Andi Peter for ‘trying to embarrass elderly couple’ during a ‘painful’ competition phone in.
The TV presenter took to the ITV studio last Friday morning to announce the winner of the latest competition, which had a mammoth £100,000 winnings up for grabs.
It was up to Andi, 55, to break the news live on air – and picked up the phone to call the winner directly while hosts Adil Ray and Ranvir Singh watched on.
And things went from bad to worse for the presenter, as the winner failed to answer him, and even asked ‘who he was’ when he made the all-important call.
‘I’m about to call somebody to let them know they have won a huge, huge, huge amount of money. What we’ve realised now is that it rings on here before it rings in your house,’ Andi told the viewers at home.
‘So if your phone is ringing about now, but of course you can’t see me yet, because I’m about seven seconds behind…

The TV presenter took to the ITV studio on Friday morning to announce the winner of the latest competition, which had a mammoth £100,000 winnings up for grabs
‘But anyway, it makes sense to me, so that’s why we have to let it ring for ages.’
The winner at the end of the phone eventually answered with a ‘Hello’, with Andi joking: ‘You are live on ITV, please don’t say anything fruity.’
Before he could continue, the winner hung up the phone, with Andi exclaiming: ‘That was downright rude!’ before trying to ring the number again.
‘Hello, it’s Andi Peters,’ he tried for the second time, with the winner once again hanging up, before Andi tried a third time, adding: ‘Third time lucky. Should I say someone it’s more famous?’
Andi finally got through to the caller a third time, but when he once again said his name, the competition winner answered: ‘Who are you?’
The voice went on to explain he was going to hand over the phone to his wife after explaining he had no idea whether they had entered a competition.
‘OK, speak to the wife, because we’ve got all the time in the world,’ Andi joked, before being passed over to caller Anne, who he asked: ‘Did you enter a competition last week on ITV?’
Anne replied: ‘I think I did,’ to which Andi clarified the couple had ‘won £100,000’.

The GMB hosts watched on as Andi struggled to keep the caller on the line

Andi regularly announces the competitions on ITV shows Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and This Morning
‘Oh my god, that’s amazing,’ caller Anne replied, as Andi once again explained: ‘It’s definitely me, it’s definitely Andi Peters from the television.
‘I can tell you’re in shock, stay on the line, one of the team is going to talk to you, but Anne you’ve just won a life-changing £100,000, there you go, it’s sinking in finally…’
He again urged Anne: ‘Stay on the line, please don’t put the phone down.’
Turning towards her co-stars, Ranvir, 48, then quipped: ‘The moral of the story is to let your wife deal with everything, the wife is in charge.’
And while some viewers were left laughing at Andi’s struggle to hand over the £100,000 prize, others were left fuming he’d ’embarrassed’ the winners.
Taking to X, one penned: ‘They’re obviously an elderly couple. This looks cruel the way it’s being handled today…’
A second chimed in: ‘Oh bless her heart….Anne have to say you handled him beautifully….why he shouts like he does, its no wonder gentle folk hang up.’
‘Just give them the f*****g money instead of trying to embarrass them on national TV,’ a third fumed, while a fourth said: ‘Andy! Stop being rude! The gentleman and his wife are clearly old and confused!’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
