Coronation Street bosses had to do some seriously quick thinking when one of Weatherfield’s biggest stars suffered an eye-watering injury on a skiing holiday.
Joe Duttine, 55, is best known for his portrayal of Tim Metcalfe, who has been a familiar face on the cobbles since 2013.
Tim is the father of Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) and has been at the heart of many a gripping story from DNA mix-ups to his romance and later marriage to soap royalty Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) in 2015.
Speaking on a recent episode of the On The Sofa podcast, Corrie stars Colson Smith, Jack P. Shepherd and Ben Price explained that bosses had to quickly amend the script after Joe was injured on a skiing holiday.
Colson asked: ‘Joe Duttine broke his rib skiing, didn’t he?’
Clearly shocked that the incident that slipped his mind, Jack replied: ‘Oh yeah he went into the tree! The ski tree!’

To avoid having questions on the show itself, bosses then decided to give the actor’s character a similar injury on the Cobbles – namely, falling off a ladder while window cleaning.
Colson revealed: ‘And he came back and there was this amended script that he’d [Tim] fallen off his ladder window cleaning.’
Ben Price, who plays Nick Tilsley, said that an injury of his also impacted the production of the show.
He revealed: ‘Do you not remember when I had a big plaster on my head and they took it out in post [production]?’
The revelation comes amid an exciting time for Corrie fans as the show is set to have its first-ever crossover episode with Emmerdale.
The pressure was once again on its writers, who hare reported to have come up with an ‘ingenious way’ of bringing the two long-running soaps together.
The storyline is said to centre around Lisa Swain, whose life has been thrown into chaos after her ‘dead’ wife Becky’s unexpected return.

A press release said of the upcoming special: ‘Lisa Swain’s life on the cobbles has been thrown into chaos these last few weeks after the return from the dead of her police wife ex Becky.
‘As we approach this milestone episode, commissioned to launch ITV’s new soaps power hour schedule, viewers will be more convinced than ever that there’s a more sinister side to Becky lurking beneath.
‘Over in the Dales, Danny’s character Aaron has seen off his ex-husband, killer John Sugden, but just as things were looking back on track with the love of his life, Robert Sugden, Robert’s secret prison husband, Kev, turned up.
‘It’s safe to say things aren’t going to be straightforward for this couple anytime soon.’
