Celebrity MasterChef CHA0S! Michelle Heaton ‘Absolutely Gutted’ After ‘Massive Disaster’ Rocks the Kitchen

Michelle Heaton was left close to tears on Celebrity MasterChef this week, after  making a major blunder in the kitchen.

The Liberty X singer, 46, is one the stars competing on the latest series of the cooking show, alongside Love Island’s Chris Hughes, writer Dawn O’Porter, soul icon Jaki Graham and actor Jamie Lomas.

However, she admitted she was ‘absolutely gutted’ after accidentally burning her  sweet potatoes fries and being forced to improvise last-minute.

Michelle had been cooking up a halloumi burger with sweet chilli jam with the chips as the side, but noticed that the potatoes were looking ‘soggy’.

Putting them back into the oven to crisp up some more, she ended up overdoing it and the chips came out blackened with a cloud of smoke.

Clutching her head in her hands, she cried: ‘Oh, no! I actually can’t believe it. Burned my sweet potato fries.’

Despite the blunder, Michelle refused to admit defeat, quickly chopping up some more sweet potatoes into cubes to fry up and serve, while confessing: ‘I am absolutely gutted’.

Presenting her dish to the judges, John Torode asked her about the error, saying: ‘You had a bit of a disaster’, as Michelle amended: ‘I had a massive one’.

However, the judge praised her for rallying herself and improvising on her feet, stating that perseverance was what the show was about.

John told her: ‘You picked yourself up and you went and sorted it out. That’s what MasterChef is all about, Michelle. Good on you.’

And he was similarly positive about her dish, praising her halloumi as ‘cooked really nicely’.

However, he added that the combination of the jam, the sugar on the fries and the brioche bun made the overall dish ‘on the edge of too sweet’.

After the judges’ comments, Michelle admitted that the experience had left her emotional and close to tears, but that she was proud of herself for getting through it.

She said: ‘I am feeling OK considering I had a massive disaster. I was about to cry, but I didn’t, because I usually do. And I just ploughed on.

‘And I’m really, really happy that I did, because I learned something about myself.’

It comes after Celebrity Masterchef fans continued to heap praise on Grace Dent’s performance on the BBC show after it returned last week.

While the food critic, 52, has often appeared on the series as a guest judge, this is her first series as a permanent fixture after Gregg Wallace was sacked earlier this year.

And so far fans are loving her as they praised her performance as they took to Twitter to declare: ‘Grace is lovely a bit of humour and humility. She is good for the #celebritymasterchef better than Greggs!’;

‘I am really loving Grace dent as a judge.’; ‘Loving this new series with slightly different format. Grace Dent is also a great addition’;

‘Thankfully no Greg yelling at the chefs to hurry up. Grace seems to have a calming effect.’;

‘I’m surprisingly loving Grace as a Judge but I’m going to miss John’; ‘Grace is finding it hard to control her facial expressions, which I find hilarious!’;

‘I didn’t like Grace Dent when she was an occasional guest judge in previous series, but now she’s a full time judge and I’ve grown to like her. She has an imperious look but is funny and rather kind.’

While viewers were left bemused to see John still presenting the show when it returned on Monday, months after being axed by the BBC.

In July, John was given the boot after being accused of using a racist slur just months after Gregg was sacked after more than 40 complaints about his conduct were upheld, including inappropriate sexual language and unwelcome physical contact.

Yet before his exit he filmed the Celebrity series alongside new addition Grace with the BBC revealing that while it had not been a ‘straightforward decision’ to air the series, every celebrity contestant and guest featured had given their blessing.

Nevertheless, many viewers were still stunned to see John back for the new episodes as they said: ‘I thought John had been sacked as well?!?!’: ‘I thought John got sacked an all? And why tf are they in Birmingham?!:’ Torode?’.

While others couldn’t help but pick up on John’s poor choice of words: “john’s first line includes “Brand New Judge” oh mate if only you knew’;

‘John: “Somebody is going to be leaving”‘; ‘John: It’s #celebritymasterchef and we are back You’re not back for long fella’.
