Coronation Street fans ‘nervous’ Carla Connor will be killed off as she’s kidnapped again
Coronation Street fans have predicted that Carla Connor could be killed off in the coming year as part her 20th anniversary on the world’s longest-running TV soap
Coronation Street fans have predicted that Carla Connor could be killed off in the coming year. The Underworld boss, who has been played by Alison King since 2006, is currently being held hostage by Becky Swain, and fans have witnessed her being tied up in the corrupt police officer’s wardrobe.
Earlier this year, Becky came back from the dead after it was thought that she had been killed in the line of duty, and she has since gone to extreme lengths to try to win her wife, Lisa, back from Carla. Viewers were given a little bit of hope on Monday night’s episode when Carla broke free after she managed to get out of the cupboard and knock Becky out, but it was short-lived.
As the latest episode aired on Tuesday night, it transpired that Carla had not escaped, and Becky was tying her back up in the wardrobe. When Becky (Amy Cudden) insisted that Carla would be “out of the picture soon,” the businesswoman proclaimed she had no fear for her life because if she was going to be killed, it would have happened by now. It was then that Becky coldly reminded her that she needed her kidney medication to live, and if she withheld that, she would die pretty soon anyway.
Becky then went back to Betsy and Lisa at number six, and promptly fainted on the living room floor as her head started to bleed. An ambulance was called, and once in hospital, she told her wife and daughter: “I didn’t want to tell you, but I was attacked. Curtis’ lot,” and Lisa (Vicky Myers) believed her lies.
As her future hangs in the balance yet again, fans of the soap will remember that this is not the first time that Carla has found herself kidnapped. In 2010, Carla’s now-late husband, Tony Gordon, returned to Underworld from prison and, seeking revenge, he held Carla hostage along with fellow Street legend Hayley Cropper in the factory as he set it on fire.
They both made it out alive, just before the building exploded, but earlier this year, Carla was held hostage by her brother, Rob Donovan, at number one, who had escaped from prison after almost a decade behind bars for the murder of Tina McIntyre.
One fan joked on X: “And the category is……HOSTAGE,” whilst another said: “[Carla] needs a ptsd storyline, I really hope they don’t sweep all of her trauma under the carpet. I also know we said about Lisa having memory lost but I think it needs to be Carla, the amount of times she’s being hit over the head.” A third fan predicted that it could finally be curtains for Carla, who was once hailed as the modern-day version of original Street icon Elsie Tanner by creator Tony Warren, as she reaches a milestone on the show.
They wrote: “The constant focus of Carla not getting her medication is making me very nervous that her 20th year on the cobbles is actually going to be her exit,” and one big fan of Carla and Lisa, who have become known as Swarla, said: “i watched the proposal & breakup last night. Stupid thing to do AK & VM are such good actors that u canfeel the joy & pain I cried & woke up depressed as hell, hoping 4 a happy end.”
Earlier in the week, when it looked like Carla had escaped from the wardrobe, viewers were thrilled that she had taken it upon herself to escape, but suspect there could be a further twist in store as they prepare for the soap’s upcoming crossover with Emmerdale. One fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Carla knocking Becky out at the end. Yass, hunny, yas!” and another joked: “Carla Connor WWE legend.”
A third wrote: “This is an unexpected twist, but I don’t think she’ll escape!! Or able to escape and there Kit rescues her,” and a fourth said: “Carla’s not going to run is she? She’s going to check on Becky first because she’s a good person, and Becky will overpower her again.” Another wrote: “Well wasn’t that thoroughly satisfying! Carla nearly launching Becky into next week!!” But some were sure that, even though they’re not exactly sure how, this could spell the end for Becky in one form or another.
One fan wrote: “That Becky loser is definitely gonna flee put herself first,” and another said: “If that little push and Becky falling felt that good, imagine what her downfall will feel like.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X. *
