Coronation Street fans ‘pretty adamant’ as trailer exposes Debbie Webster ‘truth’
A new trailer has hinted at Debbie’s fate following Billy Mayhew’s death
Coronation Street fans have said they’re ‘pretty adamant’ that Debbie Webster isn’t to blame for Billy Mayhew’s recent death as they claimed a new trailer exposes the ‘truth’ about the incident.
As fans of the ITV soap know, Debbie is facing time behind bars for her role in the recent multi-vehicle crash, which claimed the vicar’s life. The horror incident took place during Corrie’s epice crossover with Emmerdale, dubbed Corriedale, and saw a number of characters from both long-running show’s at risk as they all became embroiled in the shock pile-up.
Debbie became embroiled in the horror, which unfolded on a dark country road near Hotten, after her half-brother, Carl, who has since been confirmed to be her son, left her and Ronnie Bailey’s Yorkshire wedding venue in a bid to flee Weatherfield after being confronted on his sister’s big day over his fling with James Bailey by girlfriend Abi Webster, and the hit-and-run, which injured Tyrone Dobbs, by Kevin Webster.
Debbie didn’t want him to go, and despite his heavy drinking, she joined him in his car. As tensions rose between the pair in the car, Carl ended up losing control, ploughing into the existing wreckages that had already piled up between Becky, Lisa and Betsy Swain, Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle and John Sugden, and the minibus, carrying a number of Debbie and Ronnie’s wedding guests, driven by Billy.
In a cruel twist, Carl pulled an unconscious Debbie from the passenger side into the driver’s seat to make it seem like she was behind the wheel. He later collapsed and was aided at the side of the road by trainee paramedic, Asha Alahan. Meanwhile, Billy perished the minibus burst into flames, which came after Theo Silverton seemingly stopped him from freeing himself, knowing he knew of his abuse towards partner Todd Grimshaw.
While Carl made a full recovery, he wasted no time in convincing Debbie she was the one driving. While Kevin tried to call his bluff, revealing he saw them leaving and that his younger sibling was driving, Carl told Debbie they had swapped places having pulled over during the drive, and she has since followed his version of events.
Debbie has since been seen getting her affairs in order as she prepares for a prison sentence having pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and causing the death of Billy. But fans have been questioning Debbie, or should we say Carl’s, role in the incident.
Now, in a new trailer seen on YouTube, viewers see the impact of the devastating collision on those still struggling to deal with the loss suffered that night and those battling to prevent closely guarded secrets and murderous intent from being exposed.
It sees a vulnerable Debbie preparing to learn her fate after being charged with causing death by driving under the influence. Kevin knows she’s lying and it was Carl in the driving seat, but with Debbie covering for Carl, now revealed to viewers as her son and not her brother, it looks like Debbie’s fate may be sealed with a prison sentence.
And it was following the release of the promo that Corrie fans questioned the legitimacy of Debbie facing prison. @lyndseyhoughton84 said: “I’m still pretty adamant Debbie didn’t cause the crash therefore she’s not responsible for Billy’s death. And the hospital and police will have her bruises in their reports. Case closed.”
@veejayemtee commented: “It baffles me how Debbie, or even Carl for that matter, would be responsible for Billy’s death.. The first two cars in the crash were being driven by John and Becky. Billy swerved to avoid Carla, who was stood in the road. I know it’s soapland but blaming someone who encountered the crash midway through is baffling!”
However, @samkingdon_90 argued: “It is Carl’s fault. He was intoxicated, driving dangerously and if he hadn’t of hit the bus and sent it flying into Lisa’s car then maybe it wouldn’t have caused a leak which then caused the explosion. And it’s Theo’s fault. And also Carla wasn’t just stood in the road she was trying to get Billy to stop in time so he didn’t hit Lisa and Aaron’s cars too.”
