Coronation Street announces Lisa Swain and Carla Connor wedding date as shock looms
While fans of the couple haven’t got too long to wait, the big day is set to be rocked by a huge shock for Betsy Swain
Coronation Street has officially confirmed when Lisa Swain and Carla Connor will tie the knot and while fans haven’t got too long to wait, the day will be rocked by a huge shock for Betsy Swain.
It would be fair to say that the couple’s romance in the ITV soap hasn’t been smooth sailing ever since they gave in to their feelings for one another towards the end of 2024 – from Carla’s ill health and the return of her brother, Rob Donovan, to Lisa struggling to get over her past.
But just as things started to look up, with Lisa popping the question and moving into their first home, No.6 Coronation Street, their future was flipped upside down once again as Lisa’s past quite literally came back to haunt them with the return of her ex-wife, Becky Swain.
Beck was presumed to have died in the line of duty and her return couldn’t have come at a more awkward time, as it took place days after Lisa and Carla got engaged, and on her and Lisa’s daughter, Betsy’s 18th birthday.
With a clear plan to get her family back, Becky soon succeeded in splitting Lisa and Carla up, with viewers witnessing emotional scenes as the Underworld factory boss called time on her and Lisa’s relationship. Later, Carla had a change of heart but Lisa didn’t seem to want to know, leaving her partner heartbroken.
However, thanks to Carla teaming up with DC Kit Green to reveal the truth about Becky and Lisa and Kit’s boss, DI Costello, Becky’s plan to flee the country with Lisa and Betsy was halted. After figuring out Carla had been kidnapped by Becky, and locked in a storage container, the unlikely duo were able to stop Becky in her tracks – but after she had already been involved in a horrific car crash on the way to Hull to catch a ferry to Rotterdam. Thankfully, Lisa and Betsy survived, as did Becky.
But while her future is quite bleak after Lisa, despite being treated in an ambulance, arrested her, and she’s since been sentenced to 12 years for her crimes, things are looking up for Lisa and Carla. Becky’s departure led the way for the couple, known as Swarla, to reunite, as despite things being fraught between the pair at first, Carla gave into her love for Lisa and the pair were delighted in letting people know they are back together.
Now, it’s officially been confirmed that Lisa and Carla will marry. After the show’s producer Kate Brooks confirmed there will be wedding bells for the pair this Spring, Monday’s (February 16) episode of Corrie confirms the couple’s wedding date as being April 23rd, the day a murder is also set to rock the cobbles.
The groundbreaking flashforward episode, which became available from 7am on Monday morning on ITVX and YouTube, before airing on-screen tonight at 8.30pm on ITV, confirms that Megan Walsh, Theo Silverton, Maggie Driscoll, Jodie Ramsey and Carl Webster are the five potential victims of the upcoming murder, as each potentially having reason to be brutally killed.
The flashforward episode begins with a police interview taking place on April 23rd 2026. As the drama unfolds a shocked and anxious Betsy is seen telling the detectives about finding the dead body of someone she knows.
Dressed in wedding clothes she explains that she had been at the marriage of her mum Lisa Swain to Carla Connor, but was heading into town when she made the shocking discovery. As the episode returns to the present day we begin to see how the behaviour of the five characters could lead to their possible death two months later.
When the special episode comes to a close, it again flashes forward again to April 23rd and the five characters are on the cobbles as Lisa and Carla’s wedding fireworks light up the night sky. As the lights flicker a battered and bruised Carl, frantic Jodie, a menacing Maggie, a bloody-nosed Megan and a furtive Theo stare into the darkness.
In the final moments the terrified scream of Betsy Swain fills the air – but which Weatherfield resident will it be that Betsy finds on April 23rd?
Coronation Street is on weekdays at 8.30pm on ITV and STV and is available on ITVX and STVPlayer from 7am daily
