Giovanna Fletcher has shared a deeply personal and emotional confession, revealing she suffered a miscarriage last year following a “surprise” pregnancy at the age of 40.
The I’m A Celebrity star, who shares three sons — Buzz, Buddy and Max — with her husband, Tom Fletcher, opened up about the loss during a special milestone episode of her podcast Happy Mum Happy Baby.
To mark the show’s 300th episode, Giovanna found herself on the other side of the microphone, interviewed by close friend Emma Willis. It was there she quietly revealed that she had experienced another miscarriage — something she had not previously spoken about in public.
“It Was a Surprise Pregnancy”
“I had another miscarriage last year,” Giovanna shared. “It was a chemical pregnancy — and it was a surprise pregnancy.”
Although she described her reaction as different from previous losses, the pain was still raw.
“I haven’t talked about it publicly,” she admitted. “But don’t get me wrong — it was really hard.”
Fighting back tears, Giovanna reflected on how her perspective has changed over time, particularly when it comes to how pregnancy loss is discussed.
Challenging the ‘12-Week Rule’
Giovanna spoke candidly about why she doesn’t agree with the widely accepted “12-week rule”, which encourages women to wait before sharing pregnancy news.
“You need the support of the people around you,” she said. “You should allow yourself to feel other people’s joy — but also their sadness if there is a loss.”
She explained that silence can often leave women feeling isolated at the very moment they need connection most.
Rethinking Life After Loss
The miscarriage also prompted Giovanna to reassess how she approaches life and work moving forward.
“When the pregnancy ended, I suddenly thought I need to change how I do things in 2026,” she said. “I want to enjoy the things I’m doing, rather than feeling like I’m just getting through them. These are things I love — so let’s not just survive life, let’s enjoy it.”
Pregnancy at 40 Felt “Very Different”
Giovanna also reflected on how being pregnant at 40 felt unlike her earlier experiences.
“It did feel very different,” she explained. “I’ve got three incredible kids — and four is a lot of kids.”
She acknowledged that while another baby would have been a blessing, she feels at peace with the chapter she’s in now.
“If the pregnancy had worked out, it would have been amazing. But I’m also very comfortable with where we are as a family. This loss wasn’t surrounded by desperation or fear that it might never happen — and that made it a very different thing to process.”
A Pain She’s Known Before
This was not Giovanna’s first experience of miscarriage. She has previously spoken about losing a pregnancy before welcoming her sons — a loss that left her feeling like her body had “failed” her.
“It’s a horrible thing that happens to so many people,” she once said. “All you really want in that moment is a hug. It’s often your first experience of motherhood — and it’s heartbreaking.”
Giovanna’s honesty once again shines a light on miscarriage, grief, and the many ways women process loss — reminding others that there is no ‘right’ way to heal, only the courage to keep going.
