Coronation Street fans think Mal Roper isn’t working alone amid attack
Fans have a theory about Mal Roper, which comes as he’s subject to an attack amid a clear threat from Bernie Winter
Coronation Street fans don’t think that Mal Roper is working alone as he’s subject to an attack amid a clear threat from Bernie Winter.
Viewers of the ITV soap were only introduced to the new character in early February when arrived at Roy’s Rolls. He was looking for Roy Cropper, and once they were face-to-face, he ended up punching the beloved cafe owner as he believed he was having an affair with his wife behind his back.
Mal claimed that he was the husband of Alice, Roy’s penpal after he joined an organisation that connected him with prisoners in order to share correspondence, but his chat with the woman continued into them organising an in-person meeting.

But when Roy was unable to make the meet-up, he sent Alice flowers, leading to Mal’s shock arrival. However, Corrie fans haven’t been convinced that Alice is real, as they can recall seeing a mystery man’s hand in a scene showing them contacting Roy as Alice, which came before Mal made his first appearance.
And the question still remains. @I_am_KenBarlow asked: “#Corrie What happened to Mal’s wife Alice, who was Roy’s pen pal? Did I miss the resolution of that one? Or did we just forget it?” @BerniKennedy replied: “I definitely decided Mal was Alice and he out to rip off Roy and then got sidetracked by Bernie. Sounds daft but #corrie is so daft these days it’s probably right!”
@JustaBFG shared: “She doesn’t exist, It was Mal all along, Well thats what I understood from tonight’s Corrie.” @bluemoon219 wrote: “It was Mal writing to Roy from what I understand but we still have no idea why he was doing so.” @@Jane69946890611 added: “Was she even real? i’m not caught up with all the episodes , so i’m not clear about this. But I have never seen her , only taking Mal’s word that it was his wife who was Roy’s pen pal.”
Meanwhile, Mal has made his presence known in Weatherfield, particularly when it comes to Bernie. After Mal’s confrontation with Roy, he was seen drinking in the Chariot Sqaure Hotel, with Bernie also heading there to drown her sorrows following the tragic death of her son-in-law Billy Mayhew, who died just over a year after her son, Billy’s husband, Paul Foreman.
One thing led to another and while nothing untoward happened between the pair during their drink and drug-fuelled binge, Mal did try and make a pass at Bernie, which she rejected.
And Mal has since taken an uncomfortable shine to Bernie and she just can’t shake him off, with him getting himself some electric jobs at the cafe. Bernie has clearly been uneasy in his presence, event without knowing he’s been peeping into the home she shares with her husband, Dev Alahan, and his daughter, Asha.
But Mal stepped up his concerning behaviour this week and during an intense confrontation, he admitted he had feelings for Bernie, bringing up their kiss during their drink and drug-fuelled night at the hotel. But Bernie was quick to remind him that she had actually turned down his advances and that she loved Dev. This only made Mal more irritated, moving closer and trapping her against the door to the cafe flat as he hurled cruel remarks.
Luckily, Bernie’s son, DC Kit Green arrived and ended the terrifying ordeal. However, Bernie was left further unnverved when she returned home and found her face cut out of a picture of herself and Dev from their wedding day. She was quick to blame Mal, and he didn’t take too lightly to her accusations, claiming she had rattled the wrong cage.
Later that night, with Mal watching her from across the street she told him, under no uncertain terms, that if he didn’t leave her alone, she’d kill him. But it’s a statement she will live to regret as Mal will be attacked – and she’ll be the first person the police arrest as her outburst was witnessed.
And as Corrie fans know, it wasn’t actually Mal who did cut the photo, with Bernie’s face being found among what is believed to be Jodie Ramsey’s ‘trophy box’. With that in mind, Corrie fans have pondered whether they’re working together.
@fantafroottwist said: “Are Jodie and Mal working together in some way? How and why else would Jodie know to do something that makes it look like him when no-one knows what’s been going on with him and Bernie? Is she double-crossing him? WHAT IS HAPPENING #Corrie.” @lynxsimba2019 replied: “Do you what i had exactly the same thought. Its very weird.”@WhoPotterVian added: “So Jodie removed Bernie’s face from the picture? Not sure I buy it. I bet she’s actually covering for Mal and Mal did it really. #Corrie.”
