Bridgerton Season 4 ends with Benedict and Sophie’s wedding, while the books reveal their future family, and Yerin Ha hints at Sophie’s future.

Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek ended Bridgerton Season 4 with a fairy-tale wedding, but the story doesn’t stop there. In Julia Quinn’s novels, the couple does go on to have four children by the epilogue. While Netflix wrapped up their romantic arc in season 4, the book’s arc hints that the couple will have children if season 5 gives Benedict and Sophie a bigger presence.
In Quinn’s novel An Offer from a Gentleman, which inspired season 4, Benedict and Sophie’s romance follows a Cinderella‑like arc. This season also explored Sophie’s journey as an illegitimate child navigating the Upstairs-Downstairs of society. Benedict and Sophie initially struggle with social class barriers and misunderstandings, especially Benedict’s controversial mistress proposal. But they finally got together in the end.
The Netflix adaptation made some changes to character beats and pacing, but the key plot of their story remains the same. Season 4 finale gave viewers a wedding to celebrate, but it left the couple’s life as parents completely open. In fact, the book does have a future timeline, a portion of the series that was completely left out, probably for season 5. Book readers already know what happens next, so stay tuned. We are going to break it down below.
How Many Children Did Benedict & Sophie Have in the Books?
In An Offer from a Gentleman and the bonus book The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After, Benedict and Sophie’s story continues well beyond the wedding. The bonus book contains epilogues of each couple. One chapter includes Benedict and Sophie, three years into their marriage. They live in the countryside at My Cottage.
Sophie is a devoted mother to two young boys, described as “the most handsome, brilliant creatures ever to be born anywhere, anytime, any… well, any ‘any’ ine could come up with.”
However, the society is too judgmental of Sophie to invite her to society events. So Benedict and Sophie had to live in the countryside for a few years. Benedict pursues his passion for painting and creates three portraits of Sophie. They also set up Posy with someone who lives nearby so they could live as neighbors.
Seven years after the wedding, the epilogue of the An Offer From a Gentleman book reveals that they have returned to Bridgerton house for Violet’s birthday. They have three children: Charles, Alexander, and William. Sophie and Benedict went to the terrace, where Sophie revealed she is pregnant with her fourth child. They plan to name the child “Violet” in honor of Benedict’s mother.
Sophie was a bit annoyed that Lady Whistledown revealed it first. The timeline has been changed in the series, with Benophie’s book coming before Polin’s. So, Penelope was still Lady Whistledown at that point, unlike season 4, where she had resigned as Lady Whistledown.
If Netflix chooses to incorporate a time jump in Season 5, their children could appear as toddlers or young children. However, we still don’t know which book the series will adapt next or who the lead will be. Is it Eloise or Francesca? We are also eager to know.
Yerin Ha Thinks Sophie Might “Struggle” in Bridgerton Season 5

Actress Yerin Ha, who plays Sophie, shared insights about her character’s potential challenges in the upcoming season. In an interview with Business Insider, she said,
I think she’s going to really struggle. I literally have scripts in my inbox, and I haven’t read any of them, but I do think it’s so hard to undo habits in an instant, even if it’s a year, if you’ve dealt with it for 16 years and you know how it is to be treated on the other side of things.
She envisioned Sophie continuing to carry her kindness and humility. Perhaps, she will continue to “serve food for people or take flowers from people.” Ha is hopeful that we’ll get to see more of the downstairs world.
This suggests Season 5 could explore Sophie’s adjustment to nobility and possibly show her romance with Benedict.
Though in the book, Benophie stayed in My Cottage, the Bridgerton showrunner, Jess Brownell, in the Variety interview, has confirmed that they will be in society next season.
