Coronation Street’s Megan Walsh admits grooming student but issues chilling threat
Coronation Street’s Megan Walsh plainly admitted that she was sleeping with Will Driscoll on Friday but issued a chilling threat to Sam Blakeman, who is the only one who has worked it out
Coronation Street’s Megan Walsh admitted that she has been sleeping with Will Driscoll on Friday night’s episode. The teacher, played by Beth Nixon, has been carrying out an illicit affair with her student Will Driscoll as part of a controversial storyline on the world’s longest-running TV soap.
Will, who turned 16 just before Christmas, arrived with his family last October to move into the Rovers Return, and it was quickly established that Megan was his athletics coach – but there was a lot more to it than just that. Megan eventually moved to Weatherfield, got a job at the local secondary school and has even started up a relationship with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) as a cover-up.
But the teacher’s ways have been rumbled by Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), who is in the year below Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) at school and has tried numerous ways to catch her out.
Megan is currently living with Sam’s stepmum Leanne, and he planted a camera in the flat, but the plan backfired when the pair noticed. Megan has also issued several threats to Sam and claimed that his grades at school could suffer, but never plainly confirmed to him that his suspicions were right.
On Friday’s episode of Coronation Street, Hope Stape worked out that Sam was being bullied and urged him to come forward, but he continued to suffer in silence. Sam’s dad Nick Tilsley has also become concerned about him but has so far put it down to anxiety over exams.
Later on, Megan cornered him as he came out of the cafe and asked him how things were going. She then told him: “They’re all worried about you. Your parents. Look, the longer this goes on, the more likely they are to prise your deluded conspiracy theories out of you. I told you, they won’t believe a word of it!” Sam quickly said: “I’m not afraid of you. I’ll tell the truth. Now. Tonight. I’ll tell everyone.”
It was then that Megan started to laugh, putting on a performance as she said: “Yeah, it’s true, all of it. Does that make you feel better?” When he failed to find her funny, Megan looked him right in the eyes and said matter-of-factly: “Me and Will go to bed with each other. Tell a soul and I will laugh.
” I’ll tell the police that you fancy me, and that’s why you planted a camera in my living room, to catch me in my skimpies. You’re a little pervert, and that camera’s got your fingerprints all over it.” Sam replied: “You staged it!” but Megan was undeterred as she ruthlessly continued: “Oh, what, when I let him down gently? Yeah, a bit of am-dram, I’ll give you that. But after… we went into my bedroom, and you’d blush if I told you what we did.
“Bet you wish the camera was in there, don’t you, Peeping Sam? Remember what I said. Take me on, and I’ll destroy you!”
Coronation Street boss Kate Brookes recently explained that she the story was a “very important” one to tell. She said: “It’s a very important story to tell and we want to be as truthful as possible. As part of that story Sam will end up getting embroiled in it all.
“Sam is semi-related to the pub family and he potentially gets wind that something’s amiss. We will see the lengths that Megan will go to manipulate Sam into keeping quiet. It’ll be massively detrimental to Sam’s wellbeing.”
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
