Blake Fielder-Civil, the ex-husband of the legendary Amy Winehouse, has spoken out about the tragic death of the pop icon, insisting that he’s not responsible, though admitting he had a ‘part to play’ in her struggle with addiction. Fielder-Civil revealed they had even discussed the possibility of reconciling just days before Amy’s untimely passing in 2011.

In an emotional interview on Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast, the 43-year-old explained his position on the accusations that he was to blame for Amy’s battle with substance abuse. Despite admitting to his role in her downward spiral, Fielder-Civil vehemently denied the claim that he was the sole catalyst for her tragic end, stating that her addiction began well before they crossed paths.

Blake also took the opportunity to defend his actions, particularly his role in introducing Amy to heroin. While he confessed that the drug was something he experimented with, he emphasized that Amy had already begun using cocaine before they met, contradicting the long-held belief that he was the cause of her troubles.

“Amy made her own choices,” Fielder-Civil said. “I know it might sound harsh, but she did what she wanted, even when she knew the alcohol was hurting her. She carried on.”

While Fielder-Civil’s own life was marred by addiction, he insists that he never intentionally pushed Amy down a darker path. He further shared how he had spent his days praying that Amy would pull through her struggles and was devastated when he learned of her death while serving a prison sentence.

“We were talking about getting back together,” he revealed, his voice heavy with emotion. “The week she passed, we were still in touch about the possibility of reconciling. I never thought I’d lose her. It was my worst nightmare when I heard.”

Fielder-Civil also opened up about the day he received the devastating news of Amy’s passing while incarcerated, revealing the heartbreaking moment he cried in front of his cellmate after being shown a news article confirming her death. “I wasn’t going to cry walking down the wings,” he admitted, adding, “But once I got to my cell, I just lost it.”

Amy Winehouse, whose death was ruled as accidental due to alcohol poisoning, remains a beloved figure whose tragic story still captivates the world. Blake’s emotional revelations paint a complex portrait of their relationship, one filled with love, pain, and regret.
