Jesy Nelson Shares Heartbreaking Update on Twin Daughters’ Health: ‘It Made Me Really Sad’

Jesy Nelson has given an emotional update on her twin daughters’ battle with a rare genetic condition, revealing that they have now been fitted with leg splints to help with their physical challenges. 

The former Little Mix star, 34, welcomed her daughters, Ocean and Story, in May with her ex-fiancé, Zion Foster. In January, Jesy bravely shared that both girls had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1) — a devastating neuromuscular disease that affects motor nerve cells in the spinal cord. Without treatment, this condition has a life expectancy of less than two years. 

In an emotional Instagram video, Jesy explained that the twins’ feet were “pointing” and that they would need splints to help flatten them out. Holding the tiny, heart-covered splints, Jesy said, “It made me really sad… it’s just another reminder of what they’re going through.” 

Heartbreaking Challenges: Jesy has been open about the difficult journey since the diagnosis, sharing her pain with fans and documenting her daughters’ progress on social media. Despite the grim prognosis, she continues to fight for her girls, hoping to raise awareness and inspire change.

The singer revealed: “So today, I had to pick up the girls’ splints… it made me really sad. But it’s just another part of the journey.” She later shared the splints, with one decorated with hearts for Story and butterflies for Ocean, adding: “Have you ever seen anything cuter in your life?” 

In addition to the emotional updates, Jesy spoke about her efforts to get SMA included in the heel prick test for newborns, which could have helped her daughters receive treatment earlier and potentially saved their legs. “I really believe we can make a change,” Jesy said, reflecting on her ongoing fight. 

Despite the heartbreaking prognosis, Jesy remains hopeful, saying: “My girls are the strongest, most resilient babies, and I really believe they are going to defy all the odds.” 

A Mother’s Determination: Jesy’s dedication to raising awareness is evident. The twins were also born prematurely at 31 weeks and faced additional health challenges like Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). With her unyielding love and support, Jesy hopes to extend her daughters’ lives and defy the odds stacked against them.

She added: “I just have to accept it and make the best out of this situation… it’s not easy, but my girls are fighters.”
