Naga Munchetty Reveals the Real Reason She Never Had Kids – And Why She Was Branded ‘Wicked’

Naga Munchetty, the beloved BBC Breakfast presenter, has bravely opened up about the deeply personal decision that has sparked intense online criticism. In a candid revelation, she shared the real reason she chose to never have children — and the backlash she faced was nothing short of shocking.

In 2019, the 51-year-old broadcaster underwent sterilisation after deciding, alongside her husband James Hagger, that parenthood simply wasn’t for them. But her choice wasn’t met with understanding; it was met with disdain, with many online critics branding her as “wicked” for her decision.

A Heartfelt Decision, But a Brutal Response

Speaking with Saga Magazine in May 2025, Naga discussed how the online world had torn into her after her sterilisation. The trolling was intense, with people questioning her every move and casting judgment on her life choices.

Her reasoning was clear: “We liked the life we had, and we wanted to pursue that life,” she explained. “Parenthood is expensive, it’s exhausting, and it’s a lifelong commitment.” But that didn’t stop the harsh criticisms from flooding in.Hire Naga Munchetty | BBC Presenter | Speaker Agent

“My mum will say: ‘You’re still my baby and I worry about you,’” Naga recalled, acknowledging the pain her mother felt at first. “But I remember people saying, ‘That’s so wicked! How can you deny your parents grandchildren?’” It was a moment of pure vulnerability for the presenter, yet despite the harsh comments, Naga’s family eventually came to terms with her decision.BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty returns to show after mysterious absence | HELLO!

Naga’s Health Battle: Adenomyosis

But that’s not all Naga has been facing. In May 2023, Naga revealed that she had been diagnosed with adenomyosis, a painful condition that affects one in 10 women in the UK. For years, she suffered from the condition without knowing what it was, until finally receiving a diagnosis in late 2022 — a full 32 years after the symptoms first started at just 15 years old.

While hosting BBC Breakfast, Naga kept her condition under wraps, but she has since opened up about the toll it’s taken on her. “People see me as a trusted source of information. No one is interested if I’m feeling unwell,” she confessed. “In our industry, you don’t want to seem weak — competition is everywhere, and you always want to be at your best.”

Despite the pain, Naga has refused to let her health struggles interfere with her work. She’s remained as dedicated as ever, “dosing myself up with painkillers” to push through the discomfort and continue delivering the news to millions of viewers.

The Courage to Live on Her Own Terms

Naga’s decision to choose her own path, both in family planning and in her career, has proven that she’s not afraid to face the harshest critics. But it also highlights a deeper issue — the pressure women face to conform to societal expectations about motherhood, health, and career.

As she continues to lead a successful career, Naga’s journey is a testament to the power of living life on your own terms — no matter what anyone else thinks.

Stay tuned as Naga continues to inspire others with her unflinching honesty and strength.
