Coronation Street fans have been seen making their feelings very clear as it was revealed that Roy Cropper’s life will be left hanging in the balance in upcoming scenes.

As those who follow the ITV soap know, the beloved cafe owner has been a stalwart in Weatherfield for more than 30 years, with David Neilson making his debut in the role back in 1995, before Roy became a more prominent character in 1997.

Roy’s life in Weatherfield saw him starting out by living in the Crimea Street flats alongside fellow tenant Deirdre Barlow. He ended up working at Jim’s Café in Rosamund Street. But after a year, Roy bought Alma Baldwin’s majority share of the business and renamed it Roy’s Rolls, as it still remains today.

More than three decades later and Roy’s life is still very much in Weatherfield, but there’s danger on the way for the fan-favourite character, as he’s set to be at risk of a perishing in a blaze that engulfs his home.

According to spoilers for next week’s Corrie, feeling unwell and having returned early from his bat watch meeting to find they have no electricity, Roy gives Jodie Ramsey the day off and goes up to bed to rest off his illness.

But soon, Carla Connor approaches Dev Alahan and Bernie outside the café who point out the smoke coming from Roy’s flat. With everyone believing Roy is at the bat watch, they have no idea that he is lying unconscious, surrounded by a blanket of deadly smoke. Will he be found in time?

As the upcoming storyline was revealed on Tuesday (April 7), Corrie fans were seen flocking to social media to have their say – and the demand was clear.
