More than 200 dogs have walked along the famous cobbles for the first time as part of the Coronation Street Experience in Greater Manchester.

The ITV soap has had some much-loved canine cast members over the years, with the likes of Schmeichel and Cerberus, and more recently Peanut, Freddie, and of course, the iconic David the Dog.

But the famous Salford-based set received a flurry of new and excited visitors, with many dogs dressing up for the occasion on Sunday (April 12).

It was in February that ITV Studios announced ‘Canineration Street’, an exclusive chance to be amongst the first ever visitors to bring their pooches to Britain’s most famous street, to mark National Pet Day.

As the big day arrived, Weatherfield’s police station saw pugs Lilly and Lulu dressed as police officers and further down the street, owner Brad Wood posed with his dog Bobby, a French bulldog, outside The Kabin newsagent..

Fans enjoyed walking their dogs on the cobbles throughout the day, and owner Annie Palmas dressed her dogs – Joey and Jessie – in matching blue collars to commemorate the occasion.Tillie, a spaniel, and Dollie, a chihuahua, could be seen posing for pictures outside the street’s famous The Rovers Return Inn.

The ‘Coronation Street Experience’ has been open to the public on weekends since 2014 with up to 1000 people a day visiting from all over the world to wander on the infamous cobbles, and since the start there have been plenty of requests from visitors to bring their furry best friends to Weatherfield.

Dog tickets for the special event raised money for Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, while special ‘Weatherfield Woof’ limited edition merchandise was available in the Experience shop including dog bowls, branded treats, dog bandanas plus locally produced coffees and puppuccinos.
