Currently, The Young and the Restless, we have four characters who are in a position of power. That’s what they all have in common, and that’s what makes them intriguing. What will they do with that power? Here are the four most intriguing characters at the moment.
Holden Novak on The Young and the Restless

For over a year on The Young and the Restless, Holden (Nathan Owens) was just an ordinary guy who worked for Cane (Billy Flynn), befriended Claire (Hayley Erin), and kept a sinister secret with Audra (Zuleyka Silver). Now, with the shocking revelation that he’s Malcolm’s (Shemar Moore) son and Lily’s (Christel Khalil) half-brother, the Y&R writers have made him a member of one of the most prominent families in Genoa City.
This leaves the door open for all kinds of potential storylines. Will Lily eventually offer him a job at Winters, Inc.? Perhaps she will give him his own division to run? We assume that he will clash with Devon (Bryton James) and Nate (Sean Dominic) initially. They aren’t going to trust him, since they don’t know much about his past. But this is a soap. Eventually, Holden will most likely be embraced and loved by all the other Winters (once the writers resolve that pesky L.A. secret storyline).
Six months from now, or maybe even sooner, Holden could be one of the biggest power players in the GC business community. That means he may become a major thorn in Victor’s (Eric Braeden) side!
On another note, why hasn’t Lily or Malcolm contacted Moses (Jacob Aaron Gaines) as a possible donor for Malcolm? He is Neil’s (Kristoff St. John) son and Malcolm’s nephew! Lily’s children, Charlie and Mattie, are not the only blood relatives who could potentially save Malcolm’s life.
Lauren Fenmore Baldwin

Who would have guessed that Lauren (Tracey Bregman) would accept Phyllis’ (Michelle Stafford) offer to work for her at the company she stole from Victor? We didn’t think that Lauren would get mixed up in that unethical situation, as Michael (Christian LeBlanc) warned her that she could get caught in the crossfire when Victor tries to reclaim NE. Plus, her new career will infuriate her good friend, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott). How will Lauren handle this conflict?
Also, Phyllis made it sound like she wants Lauren to run this stolen company with her, which means that these two friends are going to be business partners. Some Y&R fans wonder whether Lauren is secretly plotting with Victor. Is she only pretending to accept the position, so she can feed Victor important information about Phyllis’ plans for the newly renamed Summers Conglomerate? Is Lauren acting as Victor’s spy? If she is, then Phyllis will likely never forgive her!
We will give Michael an honorable mention when it comes to intriguing characters on the Y&R canvas. He warned Lauren that this is not a good career mover, but he agreed to support her anyway. That means he’s opening himself up to Victor’s wrath once the Mustache finds out that she is working with Phyllis. And that means that Michael is taking a huge risk himself. Victor is going to come down on him with the force of thunder and lightning! He will probably never trust Michael again. Will Michael be ready to face him when that happens?
Matt Clark

Many The Young and the Restless fans are annoyed that Nick insisted on meeting with Riza’s (Tina Casciani) partner in Las Vegas, instead of letting Adam (Mark Grossman) meet him. Nick loves to play hero, and look where it got him this time. He was kidnapped by Matt (Roger Howarth) and imprisoned in a storage room, with Matt bragging about his plan to feed Nick’s pill addiction. Howarth is doing a bang-up job as Matt. We had to laugh when he referred to Spider as “Little Adam.”
Let’s hope that Adam and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) aren’t fooled by his claim that Nick overdosed and died. Hopefully, they’re both smarter than that! It would be stupid of Matt to let them believe this. It would be much more advantageous to him if he told them Nick is alive and he’s holding him for ransom. All he needs to do is send a photo or video of a tied-up Nick to Victor, and then, Matt can demand anything he wants in exchange for Nick’s release. Wouldn’t it be something if he demanded Chancellor Industries, with the secret intention of converting the beloved company into a million-dollar drug trafficking operation? Matt is evil enough that we could picture him doing that!
Victor will never believe that Nick is dead without seeing his body. Will The Mustache fly to Vegas for a showdown with Matt? If he does, then let’s hope he wears his black leather jacket!
Phyllis Summers

Now that Phyllis has seized Victor’s empire and claimed it for herself, we’re seeing a shift in the usual dynamics, and it’s been a refreshing change of pace. Before, Phyllis was an underdog who craved success, attention, and admiration. Now, she has all the success she could want.
Meanwhile, Victor is sweating bullets! He underestimated her, and now, he is desperately trying to find any way he can to reclaim Newman Enterprises and Newman Media. What will he offer her in exchange for them?
On the flip side, how far will Phyllis go to keep Victor’s company in her possession? Whatever she does, she better be smarter the next time she negotiates with him. The last time, he tricked her into giving back Chancellor by letting her think that he was still holding Jack (Peter Bergman) captive. Beware, Phyllis. Don’t let your guard down for a second around Victor!
