Coronation Street has signposted Daniel Osbourne as a possible suspect in Megan Walsh’s potential death. Is his dark side returning just in time for the ITV soap’s new murder mystery storyline?
Thursday’s episode (30 April) saw Daniel unleash his anger after stepping in to help Megan amid her latest showdown with Eva Price, Leanne Battersby and Toyah Battersby. While he took pity on her, his sympathy didn’t last for long…
Megan ended up stumbling out onto the cobbles with a bloody nose after a row with Eva, Leanne and Toyah turned violent in the salon flat. Toyah was the unlikely culprit, having lost her temper when Megan taunted her over her past.
Seeing that Megan needed help, Daniel invited her back to No.1 to get cleaned up and contact the police. However, he was soon pushed to breaking point as he reflected on Megan’s months of deception where she groomed teenager Will Driscoll.
Completely losing it with his ex-girlfriend, Daniel pushed her against the wall at the Barlow house. When Daniel’s dad Ken then walked in, he mistakenly suspected his son of being responsible for Megan’s nasty injury – which was mortifying for Daniel.
“Look, I heard raised voices. I opened the door and I saw blood,” Ken later explained to Daniel. “It was a split-second thing. Isn’t that what good people do? Believe the woman?”
“Not that woman!” Daniel replied. “Listen, this thing with Will, it’s not a one-off thing. She’s a world-class manipulator, Dad. She’s a cancer – she wants cutting out.” Could these chilling words indicate that Daniel decides to get Megan out of the picture?
Speaking recently about her character’s past with Daniel, Beth Nixon – who plays Megan – explained: “I think she does have feelings for him. Megan believes her own lies. So when she’s with Daniel, she gets so wrapped up in that and falls into it.
“Also, in Megan’s eyes, Daniel is the only person that hasn’t done anything wrong. We know that Maggie’s killed her husband. Will is going round and hitting Daniel and being horrible to everyone. Eva’s got her past with Adam. But Daniel is a sweet, pure soul to her.”
She continued: “Megan sees Daniel as so innocent in all of this. He’s been nothing but kind to Megan. He was infatuated with her. So I think to make her not a total monster, she’s definitely feeling a little bit remorseful towards how she’s made Daniel feel.”
Megan is one of five characters who could be killed this week, alongside Carl Webster, Jodie Ramsey, Maggie Driscoll and Theo Silverton. The unlucky individual is finally revealed in Friday’s episode, when Betsy Swain finds a body.
