Fans are eagerly awaiting the third season of High Potential and big changes made will impact new episodes.
The studios behind hugely popular series High Potential have confirmed a major shake-up behind the scenes ahead of season three. Before production on new episodes gets underway, a major decision has been made that could impact the future direction of the show.
Season two of Disney+’s hit crime drama ended in the most dramatic of circumstances. Not only were several mysteries left unsolved, but the fate of one character was also left hanging, leaving many fans concerned .
High Potential is actually based on the French Belgian series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI). Similar to that show’s premise, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Kaitlin Olson plays Morgan, a single mother with an exceptional mind, whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective.
Fans have loved seeing her solve a different case each week, while they have been hooked on her developing relationships and the overall storyline of what happened to her ex-husband. That storyline is yet to be resolved.
The series was created for US television by Drew Goddard for US television, who previously worked on shows including The Good Place, Lost and Netflix ‘s Daredevil. Goddard also penned the script for recent blockbuster sci-fi adaptation Project Hail Mary.
Todd Harthan has served as showrunner for the first two seasons. His previous credits include The Resident and 911 Lonestar. But Harthan confirmed that he would be leaving his role on High Potential following season two’s finale. He is leaving to concentrate on upcoming series Eragon, which will also release on Disney+.
His replacements have now been confirmed. According to Deadline, sisters Lila and Nora Zuckerman will be taking over as the new showrunners for season three.
The siblings most recently ran the debut season of crime drama Poker Face. That in turn was created by Star Wars and Knives Out director Rian Johnson. It had some similarities with High Potential in that it concentrated on a different murder case each week with a female lead.
However, Natasha Lyonne‘s character had an unexplained skill for just knowing whenever anyone was telling a lie. It earned a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, just one point lower than High Potential.
The Zuckermans’ other previous work include Suits, Agents of Shield and they were working on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot before it was cancelled.
Lilla and Nora Zuckerman said of their new roles: “We are so grateful to be working with Craig, Karey, Simran and our partners at 20th and ABC on this exciting new chapter of High Potential. The fact we get to collaborate with Drew, Sarah and Andrea at Goddard Textiles and the incomparable Kaitlin Olson is a dream come true.
“We’re looking forward to climbing into the brilliant, bustling mind of Morgan Gillory and crafting intricate mysteries worthy of her genius.”
