Summer Spellman is set to drop a bombshell on Coronation Street this week, one that will leave Todd Grimshaw utterly shaken. As the pair come together in emotional scenes, what does she share>
Last month, Todd’s adopted daughter was charged with the murder of Theo Silverton, and was later denied bail after George Shuttleworth found out that she was lying about her whereabouts on the night of Theo’s death.
With Tyrone Dobbs also lying to cover his own (separate) tracks, he didn’t corroborate Summer’s version of events when interviewed by the police, leading her to be charged with the crime.
In Monday’s (1 June) episode, DS Lisa Connor-Swain told Todd that there was another suspect in the investigation, confirming that Theo’s ex-wife, Danielle, had been interviewed at the station.
When Todd visited Summer in prison, he was devastated to learn that, feeling like she had no other option, she was considering pleading guilty to manslaughter in order to get a lesser sentence.
In a newly-released spoiler clip – which can be viewed below – from Sunday’s (7 June) episode, Summer is chained to a hospital bed. A concerned Todd visits her, and he’s not happy with how she’s been treated.
The police officer urges Summer to tell Todd everything, with Summer explaining that she turned off her insulin pump to get out of jail for the time being. As Todd questions her, Summer admits that she’s struggling to “cope” behind bars.
Todd urges Summer to stay strong, and despairs when she says she doesn’t think she can go to court. He points out that she has few alternative options, and begs her to continue her fight for freedom.
Speaking of the “heartbreaking” scenes, our Corrie insider says: “Todd learns that Summer has been rushed to hospital. He dashes to her bedside and is stunned when she admits to deliberately switching off her insulin pump to make herself ill, just so she could get out of jail.”
