Coronation Street airs the moment Summer Spellman has been waiting for tonight, as she’s released from prison with her name cleared.
The student stood accused of killing Theo Silverton, but the case against her has fallen apart now that Tyrone Dobbs has belatedly backed up her version of events.
In tonight’s hour-long episode, Summer returns home to the cobbles and is supported by Todd Grimshaw.
Although Todd is focused on giving Summer a warm welcome back, he still can’t resist giving DS Lisa Connor-Swain and DC Kit Green a piece of his mind about the way they’ve handled the case so far.
When Kit apologises for the police messing up, Todd replies: “Well, you will be when we sue you for wrongful imprisonment. When are you lot going to find the real killer?”
It seems that even Kit reckons Todd has a point, as he fears that he and Lisa could be thrown off the case if they don’t make progress soon.
“He’s not wrong though, is he?” Kit asks. “They’re gonna put us on traffic duty if we don’t start making some headway. We should have just gone with our instincts from the start…”
In Kit’s view, that means putting much more pressure on Gary Windass, despite the bogus alibi he was given by his wife Maria Connor.
When Theo’s death aired, Corrie bosses announced Christina, Danielle, Gary, George, Todd and Summer as the six official suspects.
Summer’s flashback scene appeared to rule her out of the equation, while Lisa has confirmed that Danielle has a cast-iron alibi.
So, with the official list now narrowed down to Christina, Gary, George and Todd, is one of them guilty or will another suspect emerge at the eleventh hour?
