CORRIE FANS FEAR A TERRIBLE TWIST FOR BETSY AS MASON’S MEMORY RETURNS!!!

Not again… (Picture: ITV)

Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) is your average Coronation Street teenager. She suffers more trauma before breakfast than the rest of us do in a lifetime.

It’s not enough that her maniac mother Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) faked her death just to play cuckoo in the nest by driving her beloved step-mum Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King) from the loving arms of her other mum Lisa-Connor Swain (Vicky Myers). But the scheming loon almost got Betsy and her family killed in a deadly car chase than ended in disaster.

Then of course, let’s not forget the time that she was accidentally shot by own mum, Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers), during a showdown with Carlas’s psychotic brother, escaped killer Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).

After all that drama, you’d think the Coronation Street writers would let the poor girl relax and enjoy Swarla’s wedding like the rest of the nation, right? And they did… for five minutes.

But poor Betsy is a Coronation Street rising star who the fans adore. So, of course she had to be the one who discovered the body of abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) after he was brutally murdered on the Cobbles.

Seriously, this girl is a murder magnet.

However, the death of her reform-in-process boyfriend, Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), who was stabbed to death by his own brother, arguably had the biggest impact on Betsy.

This cataclysmic event changed the troubled teen from girl to woman practically over night, as she started rebelling, staying out late and lost her virginity to Sean Tully’s (Antony Cotton) scally son Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne).

Recently, Betsy and Dylan have been hanging around with fellow Corrie youth-with-a-troubled-back story  Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey). This weeks’ episodes saw the teen trio run afoul of a group of thugs. This might just be the start of the drama however, as actress Sydney Martin recently teased a huge coming of age story for ‘time bomb’ Betsy.

And as clairvoyant as ever, Corrie fans reckon they’ve got it sussed.

It was during Tuesday’s episode, after the run-in with some nasty lads down the precinct, where viewers learned that the encounter had clearly brought back some traumatic memories for Betsy. ”Can I be honest? I think about Mason all the time. Sometimes I just can’t stop.’ She admitted to Dylan, who blamed himself for carrying the knife in the first place. told Dylan, before he began to blame himself for having the knife to begin with.

Insisting that Dylan was not to blame, Betsy decided that their best option was to go on living. ‘I think it’s down to me… Try and move things forward. Focus on the future, people will love and care about.’

However, Corrie fans reckon the writers have a different idea. They all know foreshadowing when they see it. Betsy’s recently been positively giddy about a potential opportunity to pursue her dreams of studying fashion in London… which obviously means some terrible disaster will happen to prevent in. Die-hard viewers took to social media to share grim predictions for what that disaster could be..

TheConnorSwains commented: ‘And there it is… the foreshadowing. As soon as a character decides it’s finally time to move on, you know something terrible is lurking around the corner, ready to alter their future forever.’

Another user, KatieJukesy seemed to agree, suggesting that the mention of Mason may mean that history is about to repeat itself in the worst way possible: ‘What if Dylan gets stabbed by those lads? That brings Betsy’s feelings about Mason back full force. PTSD ting’

Other users seemed to share that theory, believing that the ‘coming of age storyline’ may lead to Betsy being a teenager carer if Dylan is brutally attacked.

SophieH74610875 wrote: ‘I think Dylan will get shot and that what makes Betsy not got London and links with the coming of age storyline.’

Fake_TV_Chef added: ‘Wild theory: Everyone thinks Betsy’s in danger, but Dylan’s part of this story too. If he’s attacked and left wheelchair-bound since Sean’s flat has stairs, Dylan could move into No.6 for Betsy to care for him putting London on hold.’

Some theories veered into tin-foil hat territory, so obviously they’re my favourite. One user reckoned that all the recent Mason mentions could only mean one thing – that the character was about to pull a Becky Swain and return from the grave.

betsysthassie asked: ‘Okay so why the sudden Mason mention??’

maerlacqz0 said: ‘There’s been too much talk about Mason. He’s about to come back from the dead.’

LadyReignFC added: ‘I’m also always thinking about Mason. Mason’s coming back from the dead like Becky!’

Would Coronation Street do a complete 180 and resurrect a teenager killed in one of their most grounded and brutally real issue stories? I’m leaning towards no. But hey, this is the Street where anything can happen…
