This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (Monday, June 22) Coronation Street, which has not yet aired on TV but is available to watch now on YouTube and ITVX.

The whoisit?-turned-whodunnit? that has had Coronation Street fans gripped for months has finally been answered in tonight’s episode, with the reveal of Theo Silverton’s killer.

In a first for the ITV soap, Corrie gave us a look into the future earlier this year with a flash-forward episode, which revealed that a major death was ahead.

After weeks of speculation, it was finally revealed that it was Theo’s body that traumatised Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) had stumbled across, and the hunt has been on for his killer ever since.

The police have been led down several paths of inquiry, questioned countless suspects and witnesses, but have so far remained completely oblivious to the real killer.

They thought they’d nailed it when they charged Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) with the crime, having uncovered stacks of evidence against her.

First, they realised she had lied about when she’d last seen Theo after linking her to evidence found in his flat. Then, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) admitted to seeing her leave the flat that night, giving them enough reason to arrest her.

Summer was adamant that she was innocent, and assured DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) that Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) could back up her story, but when he failed to admit the truth, she was sent to prison to await trial.

Thankfully, Tyrone ultimately came clean and Summer was freed, putting the investigation back at square one.

While DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) had his money on Gary Windass (Mikey North) being the perpetrator, Lisa’s suspicions flitted between Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson).

However, it turns out that they were both wrong. The real killer was much closer to home for Kit than he ever expected…

That’s right: If you guessed Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), you win.

In tonight’s dramatic dinner party episode, tensions were high as Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) finally confronted Gary and Sarah over their suspected affair.

However, it transpired that they were hiding something much more sinister.

In a dark flashback, Sarah received a suspicious text from Todd’s phone, and when she went to the flat to investigate, she was confronted by Theo on the scaffolding outside.

During their face-off, Theo said some dastardly things about baby Billy, the son Sarah and Todd lost. The confrontation continued to escalate as Theo threatened Sarah with violence, with Sarah bringing things to a brutal end by grabbing a metal pipe and smashing it over Theo’s head, sending him plummeting to the ground below.

Panicking, Sarah’s first instinct was to call Gary, who instructed her to wash her hands, then make sure someone sees her elsewhere to give her an alibi.

Viewers will remember that Sarah had perhaps the strongest alibi of everyone, after being attacked by Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) that night.

However, it seems things are set to unravel for Sarah, as Gary warned her that he couldn’t continue to protect her at the detriment of his own life.

Fearing the loss of his marriage and family, Gary asserted that he was going to tell Maria the truth about why he had been so secretive, leaving Sarah terrified.

On the night in question, Gary used Theo’s phone to text Danielle, clearly planning on setting her up for the crime and making him an accomplice.

Will Gary really come clean? And how will Sarah explain things to Kit? Will she admit to an affair to hide the fact that she killed Theo? Or will she finally admit the truth and face the consequences?
