The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Lauren Koslow is about to debut as Jill Abbott and put her own spin on the role last portrayed by Jess Walton.
Although Koslow has been played up as a temporary recast, there’s the potential for her to become a permanent one.
In recent years, Walton’s return stints have gotten a lot less frequent.
Most of Walton’s appearances have involved Jill chiming in on video chats, but it’s just not the same when Jill is only on a computer screen.
Sometimes Jill needs to be back in Genoa City for real storylines and true interactions with other characters.
This is one of those times, so Y&R has made arrangements to borrow Lauren Koslow from Days of Our Lives for a five-episode story arc.
However, we could certainly imagine Koslow being asked to come back for future stints if this goes well.
Since both Days and Y&R fall under the Sony umbrella of production, there’s some wiggle room on Koslow being able to appear on both shows.
Jess Walton lives in Oregon and was unable to return for what Y&R Head Writer Josh Griffith deemed a pretty critical Jill-related storyline.
No matter what the reason for Walton’s lack of availability, it’s obvious that scheduling her comebacks is an issue.
In an interview with SOD, Griffith acknowledged that Walton is a beloved performer and that she’s the Jill fans know best.
That said, Griffith also hyped up Koslow’s version and seemed optimistic that viewers would accept her in the part, too.
Although Griffith suggested the door was still open for Walton’s return as Jill, that doesn’t mean she’ll walk through it!
If Walton is unwilling or unable to return as Jill, then that’s beyond the show’s control.
Griffith insisted he hopes that “as we move forward there will be opportunity to see more of Walton’s Jill] based on her availability,” but that sounds like a nice way of saying he can’t confirm that she’ll be back.
If Jess Walton chooses to skip future Genoa City visits and retire completely, perhaps Lauren Koslow could take over for good and become the official Jill Abbott.
