Mark Grossman Wants The Young and the Restless to Bring Back Christian Newman — and we agree

On The Young and the Restless, Christian Newman may not be on-screen much these days (okay, years), but Mark Grossman hasn’t forgotten about one of Adam Newman’s most complicated family ties.

During an exclusive interview with The Soap Scene, Grossman was asked whether there were any stories he would love to explore for Adam moving forward. His answer? Christian.

On The Young and the Restless, Christian Newman is one of those characters viewers hear about far more often than they actually see. Nick Newman mentions his son regularly, and by all accounts, Christian is an active part of the Newman family — although he’s remained off-screen for several years.

Now, Mark Grossman has added his voice to the conversation by revealing that Christian is one of the storylines he would most like to revisit for Adam. The actor noted that with Nick’s (Joshua Morrow) addiction storyline unfolding — and the younger generation of Genoa City beginning to age — there may be an opportunity to reintroduce the character to viewers.

“Maybe, depending on how messy this addiction storyline is, maybe there’s an opportunity where we’re going to see Christian a little bit older now, and maybe we can revisit that,” Grossman told The Soap Scene.

It is an intriguing idea because Christian is not just another forgotten soap child. He sits at the center of one of the most emotionally tangled stories in Newman family history.

Christian was born in 2015 after his mother, Sage Newman (Kelly Sullivan), was unsure whether his father was Adam or Nick. By the time DNA testing confirmed Adam was Christian’s biological father, Sage had died, and Nick had already become the only father Christian had ever really known.

When Adam returned to Genoa City in 2019, he fought Nick for custody of Christian before ultimately deciding that uprooting the boy from the man who had raised him would do more harm than good. Nick retained custody, and Christian has remained with him ever since.

Although Christian is still mentioned regularly, viewers have not seen him on-screen in years. Grossman’s comments now raise the possibility that the show could eventually bring him back into focus, especially as Connor and other younger characters begin to grow up.

How Adam Could Shape Christian’s Future

Grossman is right to see the potential there. Whether Christian returns as a child, a teenager, or a suddenly aged-up Newman heir with questions of his own, the material is already built in. The show would not have to invent a conflict from scratch. It would simply have to bring one of its most complicated family stories back into the light.

Christian is getting older, and there is still plenty of material to mine where Adam and his biological son are concerned. Adam’s son, Connor (Judah Mackey), and Christian were similar in age. They, along with cousins Johnny and Katie, are all teenagers now. Their personalities are more defined, and whether or not Christian would be more like Nick or Adam would add an extra layer to their interactions.

Although Adam and Nick have finally connected as brothers, Nick’s addiction could send Christian looking for guidance. If he turns to Adam, would it open old wounds and cause misinterpreted intentions? Nick could view Adam as stepping on his toes or accuse him of taking advantage of the situation to get closer to his son behind his back.
