Slumlord Nightmare: Baby Alfie Rushed to ICU as Abi Webster Sparks Explosive Legal Warfare Against Idris Nazir!
A parent’s ultimate nightmare is about to engulf the Cobbles next week on Coronation Street. Pop the prosecco away, because an absolute horror story is brewing for Abi Webster (Sally Carman-Duttine) when a seemingly standard complaint about household damp spirals into a life-threatening medical emergency for her baby boy, Alfie.
The shocking storyline will see a devastated Abi forced to flee her home, while charming newcomer Idris Nazir (Junade Khan) faces a catastrophic neighborhood backlash—and a massive lawsuit courtesy of Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson).
The Hidden Killer Behind the Crib
The drama kicks off with a deeply frustrated Abi venting about the state of her flat. While grabbing a coffee, she leaves yet another angry voicemail for her elusive landlord, complaining about rampant damp and admitting she doesn’t even know his name because he systematically ignores her calls.
Meanwhile, romance is seemingly blossoming elsewhere as Idris sends a massive, apologetic bouquet of flowers to Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) at Speed Daal, hoping to get back into her good graces. But the festive mood is instantly shattered when Abi hears Idris’s phone ringing at the restaurant. Connecting the dots, she suffers a massive shock as she realizes Idris is the mystery slumlord she has been desperately trying to contact.
Unfortunately, the realization comes far too late. Later that evening, as Abi tucks Alfie into bed, viewers catch a glimpse of a sickening reality: thick, toxic black mould is spreading like wildfire across the wall directly behind the toddler’s bed.
Before the night is out, Alfie wakes up gasping and suffocating for air. A panicked Abi screams for Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), who throws them into the car and races straight to Accident & Emergency.
A Grim ICU Diagnosis & Homelessness
The horror intensifies at the hospital as a frantic Carl also rushes to Abi’s side. After a series of emergency checks, the pediatric consultant delivers a crushing blow: Alfie is being admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) overnight.
Back at the flat, a shaken Idris and his young apprentice Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) inspect the property and are utterly horrified by the sheer extent of the toxic rot. When Idris turns up at the hospital trying to front things out, he is met with an icy, volatile reception.
The hammer officially falls when doctors confirm that Alfie’s severe respiratory failure was directly caused by the toxic mould in his bedroom. The consultant delivers a non-negotiable ultimatum to Abi: Pack your bags and evacuate the flat immediately. Left temporarily homeless, a heartbroken Abi has no choice but to move back into Kevin’s cramped house.
Courtroom Warfare & A Kidnapping Twist
While Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) and Alya try to defend Idris—suggesting the previous owner maliciously hid the damp from him during the sale—Abi is entirely out of patience. Returning to the flat to gather her belongings, she catches Idris and Brody trying to paint over the damage with cheap tools.
Furious at the “too little, too late” gesture, Abi completely rejects Idris’s apologies and vows to sue him for every penny he’s worth.
With the backing of a fiercely protective Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor), Abi heads straight to the Rovers Return to pitch the case to Weatherfield’s sharpest legal mind, Adam Barlow. Over a drink, the trio officially set the wheels in motion for a high-stakes, ruinous legal battle.
But that’s not all Idris has to worry about. Abi later spots Brody and Idris acting incredibly shifty on the street, witnessing Brody violently forcing a mystery man into the back of Idris’s car!
A terrified Abi immediately flags the apparent kidnapping to Sally, who grows even more uneasy when Brody suddenly starts throwing large bundles of cash into the household budget. Convinced Idris is grooming Brody into a dangerous criminal underworld, Sally warns Tim (Joe Duttine) that their foster son is headed straight for a prison cell.
The awkwardness hits a hilarious peak at the end of the week when a clueless Brody proudly introduces police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) to his new boss. The look of sheer terror on Idris’s face when he realizes Brody’s family are coppers is absolutely priceless. Has Weatherfield’s smooth-talking businessman just booked his own ticket to jail? Stay tuned!
