Coronation Street‘s Steve McDonald will receive a surprise proposal in next week’s scenes, as Cassie Plummer attempts to take her relationship with the beloved character to the next level.
Following Steve’s second separation from Tracy (his seventh failed marriage overall), he struck up a bond with Cassie, and she has looked to strengthen their relationship in recent months.
In upcoming scenes on the ITV soap, after Steve and Tim enjoy some banter over the cab radio, Cassie enters the cab office, and Tracy gets into Tim’s cab. Tim attempts to switch his radio off, but to Tracy’s delight, they overhear Cassie’s entire conversation with Steve.
“I’ve not loved many people in my life, and I’ve trusted even fewer, but it’s you, Steve. It’s you I want to spend the rest of my life with,” she says to a shocked Steve, before she surprisingly gets on one knee.
“I’m just a girl who’s standing, no kneeling, in front of a boy, asking him to love her. Marry me,” she adds, with Tracy and Tim hearing the entire conversation. It remains to be seen if Steve will accept her hand in marriage, and how Tracy will react if he says yes
Of course, we already know that Claire Sweeney will be departing her role as Cassie, so it doesn’t look like it will be happily-ever-after for the pair (unless Steve leaves too!). Either way, you can view the scene, which airs during Monday’s (6 July) episode, below.
On her decision to leave the soap, the actor said: “I think it’s the hardest job I’ve ever had to leave and my exit is very sad; I had a little weep over my leaving scenes. I got quite emotional.”Also in next week’s scenes, Tyrone Dobbs comes face-to-face with his estranged father Ross after Hope and Ruby track him down using DNA. While enjoying a family meal, the pair tell Tyrone that they have found his long-lost dad, who turns up at the restaurant.
