Brittany Cartwright spoke about not having to film season three of The Valley with Jax Taylor during an interview last week.
As she also revealed the reason for her divorce, confirmed whether she was still single, and looked back at her mommy makeover, Brittany, 37, admitted to feeling misunderstood on the Bravo reality series, commented on claims of being a pot-stirrer, shared her thoughts on Danny, 42, and Nia Booko‘s marriage, and weighed in on the ongoing estrangement of Scheana Shay, 41, and Lala Kent, 35.
“It’s been great to not have to have [Jax] around. It was a breath of fresh air. I felt a lot calmer and safer,” Brittany explained during a June 25 interview on E! News‘ Hot Goss. “That was my first time ever, in all these years, not filming with him. Huge difference. But it’s just been a lot of drama. I mean, last season of The Valley was super hard and super dark.”
“You guys saw what happened to me on camera. So imagine what was happening off camera,” she added. “It was just, it was just a lot, but I finally took off the rose colored glasses and handled business.”
Looking back at her decision to call it quits on her marriage, Brittany said she did so for her son, Cruz, 5.
“A lot of people will stay whenever they have kids but it did the opposite to me because I didn’t want him to grow up in that environment, so it just made me a lot stronger, honestly, and I was like, ‘He can’t watch this,’” she recalled.
Over two years after separating from Jax, 46, and after a brief romance with Brandon Hanson last summer, Brittany confirmed she’s “definitely single.”
“[I’m] just dating around, having fun,” she shared.
Looking back on her relationship with Brandon, Brittany admitted that there were “a lot of red flags.”
“I will never be in a toxic relationship like that. I notice the red flags. I’ve worked on myself so much. Somebody has to love family,” she noted.
Moving on to her mommy makeover, Brittany said it was the most selfish thing she’s done for herself.
“There was like, stretch marks and different things that I was just uncomfortable with after the way I was treated, so I really wanted to like, work on my confidence and get that back,” she explained. “They did a full abdominal reconstruction, put like, everything back in its place, and redid my boobs.”
Regarding her portrayal on The Valley, Brittany said she has sometimes felt misunderstood.
“I think I could be misunderstood sometimes because this season, one of my guy friends sat down at a table and said I was the one stirring the pot. No, it is so not true whatsoever, but once things are said and they’re on a TV show, people start to believe them,” she stated. “Sometimes [I can stir the pot] for sure. It’s really TV, but I also am the only person that gets along with everybody on the cast, so it’s definitely not me.”
While she has had her issues with Danny and Nia, 36, Brittany admitted to thinking their marriage was strong, but noted that fans were seeing more of what went on behind the scenes.
“Every couple fights but we’re just getting to see a little more of that now. I don’t think they’re bad by any means but it’s what we’re dealing with on the show at the moment,” she explained. “I don’t think [Danny’s] a bad person. I think he’s doing weird things, and people are seeing it and calling it out.”
Also during the interview, after stating that Kristen Doute, 43, was the cast member she would trust the most with a secret, Brittany weighed in on Scheana and Lala’s falling out, saying it was “understandable.”
The Valley season three airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
