Coronation Street‘s Carl Webster brandishes a loaded gun at Kevin next week, leading to a shot being fired.
After discovering that Carl sabotaged his car brakes, raging Kevin grabs a wrench and storms towards him. But Carl dials things up a notch when he pulls out a gun and points it straight at his uncle…
“It’s a knee-jerk reaction from Carl to pull out the gun,” shares Jonathan Howard, who plays the bad boy. “There is a moment of panic when Kevin picks up the wrench, and he goes to hit Carl with it. Carl nervously points the gun, just to keep Kevin at bay.
“Everyone is shocked that Carl has a gun in his hand – what the heck is he doing with it? He is at the point of desperation. But is he able to pull the trigger – is he a killer?”
The week kicks off with Kevin informing Carl that he’s received a letter from another garage asking for a reference for him, but he has no intention of writing one. Afterwards, Carl answers a call from his criminal associate Fiona, who entices him to take on dodgy work for her.
“Carl does try to turn it down,” explains Jonathan. “But then he gets offered so much money to do it, and it’s a quick job for him, that he thinks it will give him a buffer to start his new life. But as with everything else he does, it doesn’t go to plan.”
Later, Kevin watches a video of Ruby Dobbs on Tyrone’s phone, but accidentally clicks on a clip of Carl messing with the brakes on his car. Seething with anger, Kevin makes a beeline for Carl, while Tyrone and Ronnie Bailey rush over to try to defuse the tension.
But Tyrone and Ronnie’s presence only makes things worse, as Kevin discovers that the two men knew about Carl’s crimes all along. Desperate to calm things down, Ronnie suggests that they should all let bygones be bygones, but Kevin is in no mood to offer forgiveness.
“Kevin realises that Carl tried to kill him by tampering with the car,” reveals Jonathan. “It is a brilliant scene where they all end up in the garage together to sort it out. Ronnie has locked them all inside and Kevin goes for Carl with a wrench.”
As Kevin approaches, Carl whips out a package he received from Fiona, which contains a loaded gun. All four men stare at the weapon, while Ronnie declares that nobody is moving until they sort things out.
Kevin assumes Carl’s gun is fake, so he picks it up and aims it straight at Carl. Horrified, Ronnie tries to wrestle the gun from Kev – but in the commotion, a shot is fired…
In the aftermath of the incident, Fiona accosts Carl at Chariot Square, where she warns him that he has a week to abide by her instructions, or his life won’t be worth living.
What is Carl expected to do? And could Ronnie, Tyrone or Kevin be seriously injured?
