Coronation Street star Vicky Myers has officially confirmed plans for Lisa and Carla to become Connor-Swains after their upcoming wedding.
The popular couple finally get hitched next week, defying the odds after a last-minute crisis threatens to derail their big day.
Next week’s episodes see the Chariot Square Hotel’s function room get flooded, which initially forces Lisa and Carla to postpone their long-awaited ceremony.
However, on the day they were due to get wed, Lisa finds a beautiful way to surprise Carla. She brings her along to the hotel and unveils a quiet spot for them to exchange their vows in a more low-key setting than originally planned.
In an exclusive chat with Digital Spy at the press screening for the wedding episode last week, Vicky shared: “It’s the fact that viewers get to see this family coming together and celebrating these two women, the unifying of that family – and the Connor-Swains are now an official thing!
“It’s so powerful that it’s shown globally and people get to watch this every night, five nights a week, it’s just incredible.
“I’m really proud of the show and that I’m the one who gets to play Lisa Swain. Or Connor-Swain!”
Asked whether that surname change will be reflected in the show and the closing credits, Vicky replied: “Yeah, Carla Connor-Swain and Lisa Connor-Swain! How amazing is that? Especially considering how far they’ve come and everything that’s happened.”
Lisa and Carla exchange their vows with some of their biggest supporters there to witness it – Betsy Swain, Ryan Connor and Roy Cropper.
Afterwards, Carla is lured to Underworld under false pretences to investigate an alarm going off. Once she gets inside, she finds her wedding reception waiting for her, with more family and friends ready to celebrate.
Vicky continued: “Any wedding on Coronation Street is a big thing. Obviously, to get this, and for it to air during Lesbian Visibility Week – and also for it to go without a hitch – it’s incredible. It’s history-making and it means a lot.
