Antony Cotton has revealed his fears that there were ‘bodies in the floorboards’ when he was renovating his home. The actor, 50, who is best known for having starred as Sean Tully on Coronation Street for more than 20 years, appeared in a new episode of Celebrity Help! My House Is Haunted where he made the grim revelation.
In shocking scenes, the soap star opened the arched doors to his converted church apartment in Scarborough and a team of investigators set about foraging for phantoms in the 18th century property, situated just 200m away from the coastline.
He said: “When we first walked through the door it was horrendous! It was filthy, it stunk, it was freezing cold. The wind used to howl through the house. When it was renovated – I know there was potentially bodies in the floorboards! There were the remains of poor souls that perished at sea.”
The former Queer As Folk star admitted that he doesn’t believe in anything paranormal generally, but did admit that his Peter absolutely ‘hated’ the property and refused to go in.
He said: “Do I believe in the paranormal … no I don’t, no. But I’m fascinated in the history of the house and if the team can record either a being, a vibe, an energy doing something … I’m here for it! My other half, Peter, hated it with a passion and would sometimes sit in the car and not get out of the car!”
Rich with archived stories of forgotten souls, Antony enlisted the team from the Discovery+ programme for help Made up of psychic medium Ian Lawman and paranormal investigators Katrina Weidman and Barri Ghai, the actor told them: “I’m ready to be shown that this stuff exists, I am!”
Coasting along the sea front, en route to Cotton’s property, medium Ian vocalizes a drowning sensation in his throat bringing on a deep sadness that leads him to conspire that there could be a link between the sea and spirits in question.
Whilst Barry and Katrina read case notes, Ian relied on his psychic senses to lead his judgement.
After wandering around the property with a candle, Ian admitted: “This is a first for a long time for me where I’ve been really confused!
“But the floor, as I look down my feet disappear! That normally indicates that something strange has happened on the original ground level floor.”
He quickly became confident there is a younger spirit from a period of war and an adult fisherman as well as an American female performer dressed in clothing denoting a 1920’s, stylish wealth. Despite left feeling unnerved, Ian is positive the three entities are absolutely desperate to communicate. Katrina then met with a local historian who talked her through the fatalities associated with , unveiling the truth behind Antony’s discovery.
The researcher explained: “Reports say that there were two bodies found in separate sarcophagi. The bodies were, shall we say, surrounded by 12th century artefacts.”
It then became apparent that a spirit known as Josephine, and another called Peter, were haunting the property, but an even more shocking revelation came to the surface when a producer interrupted the proceedings with a haunting piece of information.
