Coronation Street star says ‘I can’t’ after turning down Celebrity Traitors
A huge ITV star says he was asked about Celebrity Traitors on BBC One but admits he ‘can’t’ appear on the show
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd revealed he was asked about appearing on Celebrity Traitors. The 37-year-old has starred as David Platt on the hit ITV soap for over 25 years now.
And recently Jack won over the hearts of viewers on Celebrity Big Brother. He won the 24th series of the show finishing ahead of radio presenter Danny Beard and Dance Moms star JoJo Siwa.
But Jack, who tied the knot with wife Hanni Treweek over the summer, explained why he won’t be appearing on murder-mystery show The Traitors. Talking on his On the Sofa podcast, Jack explained: “I got asked about Traitors but I can’t because it’s BBC.”
Jack’s former Coronation Street star Colson Smith, who played PC Craig Tinker, says he would be “very good” on the show. Although Jack insists he would be “s**t” at the show.
Nick Tilsley actor Ben Price added: “You’d be good in it Jack. The trick to that, anything like that, is look like you’re not a***d.”
Colson says he messaged producer Ros Philips after the Celebrity Traitors line-up was announced admiring the cast. The show, the first celebrity edition, has included stars such as Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr, Charlotte Church and Celia Imrie.
And Colson, who has also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, joked he would be open to appearing on the hit show. He said: “Ros booked it and I sent her a text after the first episode saying, ‘Good cast’. And then obviously she was like, ‘Brown nose’, and I said it was a good cast and, ‘P.S. available if you want me’.”
Colson went on to praise The Traitors. He added: “Traitors is such an interesting concept and seeing it done with celebrities is so interesting. But they all want to be Traitors.”
Ben replied: “That’s the only fun bit. It’s not fun not being a Traitor and you go, ‘Oh are you a Traitor?’.”
Celebrity Traitors has been airing on Wednesday and Thursday on BBC One. The series is set to come to a gripping conclusion on Thursday, November 6.
Singer Charlotte Church has recently opened up about her time on the show. She told WalesOnline: “It was way more intense than I expected. It has restored my faith in celebrities a little because, generally, I just really keep out of that whole celebrity scene, and I have perhaps been a little bit too harsh in my judgement of celebrities.
“It was wonderful to spend time with some really very interesting people. I think that’s been my favourite part of the experience. Genuinely, to just be in the company of some extraordinary people with extraordinary stories and minds was the best bit.”
Charlotte however admits she was pleased with her role as a Faithful. She added: “I was really happy to be a Faithful.
“I think even if the Traitors had tried to recruit me, I would have said no. I just don’t think I would have been able to hack that level of constant deception.
“I think you need to really want it, and you need to be really up on the strategy of the game and working all the angles in order to be a good Traitor. I just didn’t want that sort of experience. I wanted a bit of an adventure, something different and a challenge.”
