Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan admits ‘never again’ after TV appearance with mum Julia
Former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan features on Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening tonight alongside her mum Julia as they compete in the comedy game show
Helen Flanagan has made a frank confession about gameshows, admitting “they’re not my strong point” after an embarrassing mistake.
The ex-Coronation Street actress, 35, will feature on Romesh Ranganathan‘s Parents’ Evening tonight (November 8) with her mum Julia.
The pair join other celebrity duos including Robbie Savage with his son Charlie and Tayce alongside her father Qariem Radix as they battle it out in the comedy quiz show.
Romesh reunites with his amusing scorekeeper mum Shanthi whilst the parents put their offspring’s general knowledge to the test.
The popular primetime programme sees mums and dads select which questions their children tackle and wager on how many correct answers they’ll achieve.
Should contestants reach their targets they’ll claim the prize money, but fail to deliver and the cash gets divided amongst rival teams.
Before her stint on the show, the performer confessed gameshows “are not my strong point” whilst revealing her mother won’t be making further television appearances, insisting it’s “not her cup of tea”.
This follows Helen’s recent embarrassing gaffe during her stint on the celebrity edition of The Weakest Link, which Romesh Ranganathan also presents.
During that episode, when Romesh asked her to identify which month matched a Top Gear presenter’s surname, the former soap favourite endured a painfully lengthy silence whilst working out the response.
In an exclusive chat with Mirror publisher Reach Plc in association with WhichBingo, the celebrity revealed details about her forthcoming stint on Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening.
She revealed: “It was really fun. And I love Ramesh. I think Ramesh is hilarious. And obviously he does like the show with his mum and stuff.”
During a frank admission, she confessed: “I mean, I wouldn’t say that game shows are actually my strong point. I did the Weakest Link – I think it was, like, a few months ago, but it’s all fun and it’s a laugh.
“And that was with Ramesh as well. I feel like Ramesh is a guy and, yeah, I think he’s like a great presenter, isn’t he? But, yeah, he’s so funny.”
The celebrity continued: “They’re not really my strong point. But, yeah, they’re a laugh.”
Helen then disclosed she won’t be featuring on television with her mum again as she explained: “I don’t feel like she really likes being in the spotlight. I asked her to go and then she did. But, yeah, no, I don’t think it’s like her cup of tea, really.”
The performer, who has three children with her former footballer fiancé Scott Sinclair, isn’t enthusiastic about the prospect of her offspring pursuing her path into the limelight as she confessed “I’m protective”.
She revealed: “I think as a mum, obviously, you’re very protective. I feel so grateful and I’ve had so many amazing opportunities that are incredible in my life.
“But I kind of feel like with my own kids, I don’t know, you’re just a little bit more protective. I just kind of obviously just want your kids to be happy.”
Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening airs tonight (Saturday 8) on ITV1 and ITVX.
