Finnian Garbutt, the beloved BBC actor known for his role in Hope Street, has shared a devastating health update, revealing that his stage four cancer has progressed rapidly, and he is now in the last stages of his life.

The 28-year-old, from Bangor, Northern Ireland, who has been battling cancer for over four years, posted the heartbreaking news on social media over the weekend. He explained that scans had shown the cancer had spread quickly throughout his body, leaving him with intense pain in his back and hip.
In his emotional post, Garbutt expressed gratitude for his life’s achievements despite his ongoing battle, sharing that he had met many of his life goals, including starring in 30 episodes of a TV show, leading a film, buying his own house, marrying his “best friend,” and becoming a father to his “incredible” baby daughter. “Since being diagnosed four years ago, I’ve achieved so many of my life goals… and I’m so grateful for that.”/i.s3.glbimg.com/v1/AUTH_e7c91519bbbb4fadb4e509085746275d/internal_photos/bs/2026/M/G/u0h2wdRmSLUhO8kgB65Q/monet-fotosdsc-27-.png)
He thanked friends and supporters for their encouragement and let people know that, with his health worsening, he hoped to cherish his time with family and friends. “I hope now it’s in the open, then I can enjoy the time with my amazing family and friends,” he said.
Garbutt’s decision to publicly share his news was motivated by the difficulty of telling everyone individually. “I’m putting this out there as it’s really difficult to tell people individually,” he shared, also inviting people to meet up for a pint or coffee if they wanted to.
Despite the grim prognosis, Garbutt remains positive and focused on the love and support surrounding him during this incredibly challenging time. His bravery and openness about his journey have touched the hearts of many fans, colleagues, and loved ones.
