Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley has joked he is ‘fuming’ after his character’s birthday was seen being celebrated on-screen alongside his co-star.

Those who follow the ITV soap best know the actor for playing George Shuttleworth, alongside Jodie Prenger who plays George’s sister, Glenda Shuttleworth.

Tony made his debut as George in 2020, with the character being revealed to be the son of Archie Shuttleworth, a local undertaker who ran Shuttleworth’s Independent Funeral Directors on Tile Street, which George is now in charge of following his father’s passing.

He was later joined in Weatherfield by his sister, Glenda, with Jodie making her debut in the role of the foromer cruise ship entertainer in 2022 and the pair have been favourites among viewers ever since.

During the latest trip to the cobbles on Monday night (December 29), Glenda was seen setting up the Bistro for her birthday celebration, which she was sharing alongside George, who was gearing up for his 60th in just a couple of weeks time.

With Glenda happy to keep it low-key, Christina Boyd arrived and was quick to get under the barmaid’s skin as she said what had been organised wouldn’t do.

Later, guests arrived at the restaurant for the joint party, however, it became clear that it was just George’s early milestone occasion that was the focus of the event, not the big day of his younger siblings.

Taking to social media following the scenes, Tony, who is 57 in real life, shared a selfie of himself and Jodie, 46, and quipped on X (formerly Twitter): “So Glenda’s 50 and George is 60!!! These Corrie writers clearly hate us because neither of us looks a day over 28!! #Corrie #FUMING.

He also shared the same post on Instagram and “So Glenda’s 50 and George is 60!!! These Corrie writers clearly hate us because neither of us looks a day over 28!! #Corrie.”

Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw in Corrie, commented on the post: “‘This is a hate crime!’ [heart eyes emojis].” Eva Price actress Catherine Tyldesley gushed: “[heart eyes emojis] my faves.” Former Corrie star Daniel Brocklebank, who has already filmed his final scenes as Billy Mayhew, joked: “Happy 80th darling.”

And fans were also quick to respond. @mily_theatre92 said: “Lovely photo of you both! Best onscreen siblings ever.” @mentalhealthawareness2121 commented: “Two ages that both of you are nowhere near, obviously.” @itsfranciswadsworth1 wrote: “Love this tony. So gorgeous together.”

@_kizzylou_ replied: “Is an absolute cheek if you ask me, you both look far too young.” @nancy.lock.5 posted: “Lol no you don’t love you two on Corrie.” @swqrlafilmz shared: “Am I only now realising that almost ALL the Corrie actors look way younger than they are?!!!” @misshoolahan added: “Yep, Corrie definitely done you both dirty, do they even like you there? [crying laughing emojis]. You’re both amazing….my favourites.”
