History in the making! 🌍 PM Keir Starmer and President Macron have just launched a massive multinational fleet to take back the Strait of Hormuz! 🇬🇧🇫🇷 Following the US-Iran ceasefire, the “Charles de Gaulle” is moving in to clear the mines and end the energy blockade.

In a move aimed at restoring global economic order, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have officially announced a multinational maritime mission led by their two nations in the Strait of Hormuz. The mission comes immediately after a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, with the goal of restoring freedom of navigation and safeguarding critical global trade routes.

A Unified Front of 49 Nations

During a high-level meeting attended by representatives from 49 countries, along with the European Union and the International Maritime Organization, leaders reached unanimous agreement. The message was clear: the Strait of Hormuz must be fully and immediately reopened.

Speaking after the meeting, Keir Starmer emphasized: “Reopening the strait is both a necessity and a global responsibility. It is essential to curb rising living costs and prevent further damage to the world economy.” Participating nations agreed that the waterway must remain open, free from tolls or restrictions, restoring conditions to their pre-conflict state.

A Defensive and De-mining Mission

Starmer stressed that the upcoming military operation is “entirely peaceful and purely defensive.” The mission will begin once the ceasefire takes effect, focusing on reassuring commercial vessels and supporting mine-clearing operations to ensure safe passage.

A multinational military planning conference is scheduled to take place in London next week to finalize force structure and operational details. So far, more than 12 countries have expressed readiness to contribute personnel and military assets.

Welcoming the Ceasefire

At the press briefing, Emmanuel Macron welcomed the positive diplomatic developments, including the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as a separate ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. However, he cautioned that the international community must remain vigilant.

Macron highlighted the severe consequences of the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which disrupted supply chains for oil-dependent nations and inflicted damage on the global economy. He also stressed that the coalition of 49 countries firmly opposes any attempt to “privatize” an international maritime route.

Deployment of Forces

France confirmed its readiness with significant military resources. The aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, along with several frigates and helicopters currently stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean and nearby seas, will be redeployed in alignment with the joint mission. Macron also confirmed that the European-led initiative will remain independent while being closely coordinated with the United States to maximize effectiveness.

A Comprehensive Economic Strategy

Beyond security measures, the summit outlined a clear strategy to manage the current economic shock. Nations agreed to avoid unnecessary trade restrictions, while committing to support energy security, food security, and key industries to ensure maritime transport resumes as quickly as possible.

The event concluded with a powerful message of unity from countries across Europe, the Gulf, Asia, Africa, and the Americas: the world stands together to restore international law, protect freedom of navigation, and bring stability and peace back to people around the globe.
