Kelvin Fletcher’s wife admits she’s not his ‘dream woman’ as she gets real about married life on farm – revealing the area she falls short

Standing in a snowy Austrian kitchen during Sunday night’s Christmas special of Fletchers’ Family Farm, Liz Marsland smiled politely as she learned how to make traditional Bauernkrapfen pastries.
But behind that smile, viewers witnessed something deeper.
“That’s probably Kelvin’s dream woman,” Liz said softly of the Austrian farmer’s wife showing her the recipe.
A proper farmer’s wife.
“And he got me — and I can’t cook.”
It sounded like a joke.
But for many watching, it didn’t feel like one.
The moment came after years of the couple opening up their lives on camera — from buying their 120-acre farm in Wincle, Cheshire, to raising four children, to surviving devastating losses during lambing season.
And now, for the first time, Liz’s words felt heavier than banter.

Friends close to the couple say the pressures of rural life, parenting four children, financial strain and the emotional weight of constant filming have quietly tested their relationship behind closed doors.
One source told the show’s producers that Liz has often questioned whether she truly fits the traditional image of the “perfect farmer’s wife” Kelvin seems to admire.

“I keep fighting for this marriage,” Liz is said to have confided privately.
“There are moments when it all feels too much. I break down… then I calm myself and promise I’ll try again. Over and over. Even now.”
Kelvin, 41, and Liz, 40, met as teenagers and began dating in 2009 before marrying in 2015. Their original plan to relocate to California was derailed by Covid, leading instead to their dramatic move into farming life in 2021 — a decision that transformed their careers but also their marriage.
While Kelvin has often spoken of pride in being a “custodian of the land”, Liz has quietly shouldered much of the unseen emotional labour — raising Marnie, Milo, Mateusz and Maximus while adapting to a life she never imagined.
Earlier this year, the couple broke down live on Lorraine after losing a lamb during a traumatic birth — one of several heartbreaks they have endured on the farm.
Despite insisting things are “okay” today, Liz admits the uncertainty still lingers.
“You hold it together,” she says.
“Until you wonder whether one day you simply won’t be able to anymore.”
