I poured this on the roots!Suddenly the orchid bloomed many flower branches and put out healthy root

Today, I will share an important tip that many orchid enthusiasts may not have heard before. This tip will help you grow orchids in the healthiest way possible and ensure they bloom abundantly. If your orchids have not bloomed at all or if they struggle to produce flowers, the following advice will be highly beneficial. Let’s move on to the first tip.

Tip 1: Air Change for Orchids

If your orchid is not blooming despite providing it with liquid plant nutrients, the most crucial step you need to take is to change the air around it. Before we dive deeper, I’d like to mention that English audio listening is now available for my videos. If you wish to listen to my content in English, go to the settings after the video and select the English option instead of the original Turkish.

For an orchid to bloom, it must have healthy roots and leaves. Before performing an air change, ensure your orchids are free from pests and diseases. Air change is a method that stimulates orchids that do not notice seasonal changes and do not grow flower branches. The process involves leaving the orchids outside for four nights and five days under specific conditions.

The temperature should be between 15-18 degrees Celsius during this period. At night, the orchids remain outside, while during the day, they should be placed in a location where they receive limited sunlight and are protected from excessive wind. This method guarantees results for orchids that refuse to bloom.

After four nights and five days, bring your orchids back indoors. It’s important not to leave them outside for extended periods, as this could cause damage instead of promoting blooming.

Tip 2: Using Lemon for Orchid Leaves

The second essential tip involves using lemon juice. You can use either green or yellow lemons for this method. Squeeze one tablespoon of lemon juice into a bowl and add 200 milliliters of water. To enhance the effect, you can mix in moisture oil, which is available in natural product markets. If you don’t have moisture oil, lemon juice alone will suffice.

One of the most crucial aspects of orchid care is checking the underside of leaves for insects or diseases. To do this, soak a cotton ball in the prepared mixture and gently wipe both the top and bottom surfaces of the orchid leaves. This should be done once a month to prevent infections and ensure healthy growth. If an orchid does not produce flower branches, it may be struggling with an unseen issue, such as disease or insect infestation.

Tip 3: Maintaining Moisture Levels with a Second Pot

Orchids thrive in humid environments, so maintaining an appropriate moisture balance is key. A simple yet effective way to do this is by using a second pot. The secondary pot should be wide enough that when you place your hand inside next to the flowerpot, it has sufficient space around it.

Without a second pot, orchid roots can lose moisture quickly, leading to the need for frequent watering and slower plant development. The presence of a secondary pot helps regulate moisture levels, ensuring that orchids grow healthier and faster.

Tip 4: Watering Orchids Correctly

One of the most common mistakes in orchid care is improper watering. You should determine the right time to water your orchid by observing the color of its roots. Root color indicates watering needs:

  • White roots = Needs water
  • Green roots = Does not need water

If the orchid’s roots appear white, it is time to water it. If they are green, avoid watering as this can lead to root rot. When watering, provide only about 100 ml of water (approximately one small glass). This is enough for the orchid to absorb all the water throughout the day.

The transformation happens quickly—after watering, white roots turn green as they absorb moisture. The next day, check the roots again. If the root color remains green, do not water. Overwatering can cause root rot, leading to yellowing leaves and flower loss.

Tip 5: Choosing the Right Location for Your Orchid

Where and how you position your orchid plays a significant role in its blooming potential. Orchids love plenty of light, so placing them on a windowsill with indirect sunlight is the best option.

A good location for orchids is a window that receives afternoon or morning sunlight for a short period. Orchids exposed to adequate light produce a higher number of flowers. If your orchid is struggling to bloom, it may not be receiving enough light. Always ensure your orchids have sufficient indirect sunlight to encourage flower growth.

Tip 6: Using Natural Fertilizers for Orchids

Providing liquid plant nutrients is another critical step to ensuring healthy orchid growth. I recommend using homemade natural fertilizers such as banana peel water.

To prepare this simple yet effective fertilizer:

  1. Take the peel of one banana and place it in 200 ml of water.
  2. Let it sit overnight.
  3. The next day, strain the mixture and use the banana-infused water to fertilize your orchids.

You can also use rice water or aloe vera water as an alternative fertilizer. When applying fertilizer, use five tablespoons per potDo not over-fertilize—giving fertilizer once a month is sufficient to support orchid health and blooming.

Final Thoughts

By following these six essential tips, you can significantly improve your orchids’ health and increase their blooming potential:

  1. Air change method to stimulate blooming.
  2. Lemon juice treatment to clean and protect leaves.
  3. Using a second pot to maintain moisture balance.
  4. Proper watering techniques based on root color.
  5. Providing ample light for optimal flower production.
  6. Monthly fertilization with natural homemade nutrients.

There is no such thing as an orchid that does not bloom—only orchids that lack proper care. If you consistently apply these tips, your orchids will thrive and produce abundant flowers.
