The tears were flowing freely last night in The Traitors castle, as the remaining eight players all told how they would spend the prize money if they were to win.

In an astonishing confession at the dinner party thrown by host Claudia Winkleman, Faithful Jade Scott told the group gathered around the table that she had lost her mother and her half-sibling in very difficult circumstances eight years ago.

Personal trainer Jack Butler, 29, said he was going to propose to his girlfriend “in the next few months” and he’d like to spend any winnings on a deposit for a house. “I’ve got a secret plan, the ring’s already sorted, it’s a massive surprise.” Pictures have already shown him proposing to Kim while on holiday in Santorini in August, two months after filming on the show ended.

Cyber security consultant Stephen, 32, said that growing up on the Isle of Lewes he grappled to come to terms with being gay. “Growing up in a rural community, for the longest time I hated myself. I lost my teenage years going to church and trying to pray myself normal. I just have really not liked who I am.” He said that despite growing up poor, his parents had worked hard to give him and his brother “an incredible childhood” and now he’d like to repay them.

Communications office Rachel, 42, said her mother had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s aged just 47 and had “been very il for a long time” and now has dementia. She wants to take her family on a big holiday “while she still has her memories” to make.

Creative director Matt, 35, said he and his partner Jason got engaged during Covid but had never followed through and now he would like to actually get married.

Auditor Faraaz Noor, 22, said he’d like “a new motor” and would love to take his family on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Gardener James Baker, 38, claimed he was happy with his lot but said he has seven people living in his house and would like to get his eldest step-daughter a car that “doesn’t conk out” plus a holiday for them all.

Recruiter Roxy Wilson, 32, told the group that she was adopted aged six and prior to that had always “been told that I would not amount to anything”. She said that her adoptive mother was “a fantastic, wonderful woman” but did not reveal that they had all met her because it is Judy, the first player to be banished at the start of this series.

As Jade gave the details of what had happened to her, the others gasped and looked horrified with Roxy wiping away tears. Jade cried as she explained: “My parents got divorced when I was seven, my Mum moved back to Hong Kong, she had a kid and then in 2018 they were both found dead.”

Blaming her tears on the fact that it had been “an emotional day”, the 25-year-old Phd student from the West Midlands told the group: “I have had to really rebuild myself from that point onwards. So I’m really proud of myself for being here and getting this far.” As the others commended her bravery, Jade said that if she ended up winning the prize money, she’d spend it on getting her own pad. “I think I’d really like to buy a home,” she said. “Somewhere I can call my own.”

In an interview after the dinner party, she told the camera: “In 2018 I lost my Mum. I was always very close with her so it was a shock to the system. Our parents form a big core of our own identity so I had to rebuild myself. It’s affected me a lot. It takes me a very long time to let people in just because it does take me a minute to get comfortable and I can come off as a bit standoffish at first.”

in the run-up to the round table Jessie’s sudden exit meant that Stephen feared he would have plenty of fingers pointed at him, because Jessie had set out her case for him being a traitor immediately before her murder. Saying he needed to be “very careful”, Stephen explained that one way or another Jessie needed to leave the BBC show but he knew it was a risky move and said that, if he got through this banishment, it would only be “by the skin of my teeth”. He admitted: “It’s a miracle I’ve got this far.”

But in the event his fears were unfounded with neither him nor fellow traitor Rachel receiving a single vote. Ellie was banished, having cried over how hard she had found the game, but managed to leave on a high by causing widespread astonishment with her revelation that she and Ross Garshong had come into the castle as a couple.

After her banishment, there were just eight players left to revel in Claudia’s declaration that there would be no murder. But their joy over the dinner party was short-lived when the presenter returned with a “ceremonial dagger” which allows its owner to have a DOUBLE vote at the next round table. She said the Traitors would get to choose who would get it, and could pick themselves if they wanted.

Rachel and Stephen grappled over whether to hand the power to a Faithful or keep the dagger for themselves – and seemed to be veering towards the latter, having realised that it would give them three votes between them at the next meeting which, as Stephen pointed out, “is enough to get anyone out of the game”.
