Coronation Street fans were seen sharing an observation about DS Lisa Swain as one of her latest scenes hit them ‘right in the heart’.

During Wednesday’s (April 15) episode of the ITV soap, after a violent attack by his husband, Theo Silverton, Todd Grimsahw was seen getting his injuries documented at the police station when he locked eyes with another domestic abuse victim, being escorted through the station by PC Jess Heywood.

It stopped him in his tracks as she appeared horrified by what she could see, while also carrying an injury of her own. Todd was then heard telling Kit and DS Lisa Swain the true extent of what he’s been facing at the hands of Theo.

He told them about the secret camera footage he’d collated to prove what was going on, and how the late Billy Mayhew was the only one to know about the videos, and that they’d been edited by Theo to make Todd think he was in the wrong.

While Todd was giving his statement, back on the street, Gary Windass cornered Theo and threatened him with a wrench, forcing him into the van before making their way to the police station, where Kit was seen arresting him for ABH and false imprisonment, and Lisa was later seen questioning the abuser.

After trying to push the blame onto Todd, asking if they were being treated the same, Theo was eventually held for the night in custody by Lisa. Meanwhile, Todd was seen being kept in the hospital as it was revealed he had suffered numerous injuries, including a lacerated spleen and internal bleeding.

As this was going on, Lisa was heard discussing domestic abuse with her colleague, Jess, as a number of scenes showing its impact on a series of extras that were featured throughout the episode, all of which had a flyer for a domestic violence survivors’ support group, in the colour purple.

Jess shared her frustration as she watched the women who had come in to report her partner for his violence had withdrawn her witness statement and returned to him. When she claimed she ‘wouldn’t stand for it’, Lisa delivered a moving monologue about the reality of those facing domestic violence in varying forms.

And some Corrie fans have been seen reflecting on Lisa’s response throughout the episode, with them referencing the manipulation she faced with her ex-wife, Becky Swain.

One said: “Lisa’s monologue tonight.. hit right in the heart. Abuse showing in different ways.. Parents. Relationship regardless of sexuality and gender. People in positions of power. It was beautiful and Vicky Myers did a great job #Corrie.” Another shared: “Very close to home for Lisa tonight in ways. Any abuse matters. Absolutely fantastic that Corrie has @VixMyers doing the monologue. #Corrie.”

Another viewer posted: “‘Sometimes all we can try to do is offer some hope, some belief that escape is an option, that you can feel safe again’. This speech is so incredibly powerful, especially to anyone who may watch it that are in the same situation! Such a hard hitting and important episode! #corrie.”

A fan added: “That #Corrie episode was absolutely heartbreaking, it was a hard watch but this is someone’s daily reality and it’s so important to highlight it. You could really see how deeply it affected Lisa, both personally and professionally. It’s the kind of case she’ll come up against far to often, but knowing the type of person she is, it’ll only strengthen her desire to keep people safe. That monologue was so profound and Corrie at its best. You just know Lisa will go home to Carla and finally let it all out because with her, compartmentalised brain aside she doesn’t have to stay strong. Carla will always be her safe space.”
