Alan Ritchson’s War Machine Has Blockbuster Start in Netflix Top 10 – Here’s How It Compares
The movie could be eying a spot on Netflix’s all-time top 10 list with its opening weekend but a lot has to happen in the upcoming weeks.

Alan Ritchson’s new Netflix movie War Machine is a hit, becoming the second most-watched opening 3-day week for Netflix this year and, if it sustains strong viewership in the weeks to come, potentially making it to Netflix’s all-time top 10 list. Let’s break down its numbers thus far.
Topping the Netflix charts for March 2nd through March 8th on the English movies side, it bested Jurassic World Rebirth quite handsomely. It picked up 71.4M hours watched around the globe which equates, based on its runtime of 1 hour and 49 minutes, to 39.3M views.
FlixPatrol data pointed early on that the movie had global appeal. Their data illustrates near-absolute global saturation for the film. Out of the 87 countries tracked during this four-day window, War Machine secured the number one spot for four consecutive days in a staggering 80 countries. This incredibly uniform performance across widely diverse regions—spanning the Americas, Western Europe, Africa, and the Middle East—indicates a massively successful worldwide hit that immediately captured a broad audience.
While the film is an undisputed juggernaut, the data reveals a slight delay in market penetration, primarily localized to the Asian market, alongside two notable outliers:
The Rapid Climbers: In India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Thailand, the movie debuted at #2, while in Japan, it debuted at #3. However, in all five of these territories, it successfully climbed to #1 by the second day and maintained that top position for the remainder of the tracked period.
Ukraine: The film faced slightly longer initial resistance here, spending two days at #2 before finally capturing the #1 spot.
Vietnam (The Sole Holdout): Vietnam is the only country in the entire 87-nation dataset where the film did not reach number one. It has maintained a steady #2 position across all four days, suggesting highly localized competition from another dominant title in that specific region.
This launch makes it the second biggest Netflix movie release of 2026 so far (in its opening 3 days), behind The Rip, which debuted to 41.6M views and ultimately missed out on a spot in Netflix’s top 10:

Stacked against the opening weekends of Netflix’s all-time most-watched movies, you can see War Machine is currently tracking above Damsel, and that’s about it, so it’s got a lot of work to do if it wants to secure a spot. Damsel, as proven against The Rip, went on to have longer legs across the 91-day qualifying period, so it’s by no means guaranteed a spot. KPop Demon Hunters is an obvious outlier in its opening week, given that it went to defy gravity from around week 3 onwards.

Here’s a look at what the movie will have to do to outpace its competitors in the weeks to come and guarantee a spot up there.
Although critics were mostly positive (with our own review being a notable outlier, it must be said), audience reception and word of mouth, at least as measured by the tools we’re using, look strong.
