Nina Lucas has only just started a new chapter with Asha Alahan, but the latest episode of Coronation Street hinted that trouble could already be brewing. The pair recently moved into a two-bedroom flat, renting the property from Asha’s father, Dev.
Their fresh start appeared to get off to a positive start, with friend Summer Spellman arriving with housewarming gifts. However, this Monday’s (6 July) episode suggested the pair were ready to butt heads.
Back at Roy’s Rolls, Nina was chatting to Sally Metcalfe when the conversation turned to her new living arrangements. Rather than singing the flat’s praises, Nina admitted things hadn’t been going quite as planned.
She revealed that Asha had been leaving passive-aggressive notes around the flat, reminding her to clean appliances and put things back where they belonged. Although the exchange was played for laughs, it hinted that cracks were appearing in the arrangement.
The seemingly throwaway moment could also prove significant given Nina’s future on the cobbles. Last month, it was confirmed that actor Mollie Gallagher will be leaving Coronation Street.
At the time, a spokesperson told Digital Spy: “Mollie has created a unique and well-loved character in Nina over the past six and a half years and everyone will be sorry to see her go.”
The actor has already lined up her next project, making her professional stage debut as Clarice Starling in the UK and Ireland tour of The Silence of the Lambs. She’ll appear alongside former Coronation Street and Emmerdale actor Oliver Farnworth, as well as John Partridge, Minal Patel, Sam Jackson, Jo Mousley, and Lottie Amor.
Since arriving on the Street, Nina has found herself at the centre of some of the soap’s biggest storylines. Her most memorable came in 2021, when she and boyfriend Seb Franklin were the victims of a hate crime motivated by Nina’s alternative appearance.
Seb later died from his injuries in one of the soap’s most devastating scenes. Mollie’s performance earned her the Serial Drama Performance award at the National Television Awards later that same year.
Nina’s latest setback also comes as Asha appears to be entering a new chapter of her own. Recent episodes have hinted at a growing connection between Asha and her workmate Sienna, after the pair crossed paths at the Bistro.
Teasing what’s ahead, actor Tanisha Gorey said: “There’s definitely something on the horizon and it’s really sweet. It’s also a little bit sad, but we see Asha having to be supportive.”
With Nina’s exit still to come, the timing of these early tensions could prove more significant down the line.
