Noah Wyle may not have appeared alongside his wife Sara Wyle in season 2 of The Pitt, but he didn’t miss a moment of her performance.

On the April 2 episode, Sara, 46, guest-starred as an ER patient— and she tells PEOPLE it was “so fun” to get in on the action.

“Everyone is so wonderful, and they create this unbelievable environment for everyone to get their best work, because that cast brings their A-game,” she says on the red carpet at the Time100 Gala, where Noah, 54, is being honored. “I was a little bit intimidated first. But then, everyone is so wonderful, and they really cultivate this environment to succeed.”

Noah says he was “spying on her” the whole time. “I wasn’t on the set, but I was watching,” he tells PEOPLE. “I was in the makeup trailer. I could see it on a TV monitor in the mirror behind my head.”

“I was like, ‘Oh, she looks so good. She looks really yellow, but that’s what we want. That’s what we want. She still looks really hot though,’” he says.

When asked how he felt about not sharing a scene with Sara, Noah admits, “I’m always jealous when I’m not on camera.”

“But to be honest, I also was thrilled that you had that experience to yourself, that you went and you played your scene, and I wasn’t there to be a distraction,” he says to his wife of 11 years.

Noah says that as “soon as they were finished” with Well’s scene, “I ran in and gave her a kiss, so nobody got any wrong ideas that she was available.”

“He did,” she says. “That’s true.”

For Noah, having Sara by his side at the Time100 Gala made the evening all the more special, and he jokes, “Do you realize how hard I had to work to get this date? I had to become one of a hundred people to go out with my wife.”

“She sets a very high bar,” he quips, and Sara says, “But it was super worth it.”

The Pitt season 2 is now streaming on HBO Max.
