The cobbles are practically shaking after this week’s atomic bombshell that Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) is Theo Silverton’s true killer. But Coronation Street fans are already looking ahead, and a wild new theory suggests Sarah’s ultimate downfall won’t come at the hands of the police—but from her very own daughter, Bethany!
With actress Lucy Fallon previously warning that viewers will absolutely “hate” her character in an upcoming plot, the pieces of this toxic family puzzle are starting to fall perfectly into place.
The Villain Arc: “Everyone is going to think she’s a dk”
The rumors first ignited earlier this year when Lucy Fallon (30) teased a dark, highly controversial storyline for Bethany during an interview at the Grand National Festival at Aintree Racecourse.
When pushed for juicy details, Lucy admitted she was playing the baddie this time around:
“She does [have a big story coming up]! I can’t tell you what it is, but it’s not going to be great. I don’t think people are going to be happy about it. This one is low-key her fault. Everyone is going to be like, ‘She is a d**k.’ Which is fine.”
While she remained tight-lipped on the specifics, Monday’s jaw-dropping flashback—which showed Sarah striking Theo with a metal pole and sending him plunging off the scaffolding to his death—has given fans the ultimate lightbulb moment.
Fans Take to X to Predict the Ultimate Betrayal
Viewers are heavily convinced that Bethany will stumble upon the killer secret that Sarah and Gary Windass (Mikey North) are desperately trying to bury. Instead of protecting her blood, theories suggest she will march straight to the station to shop her mum.
One fan posted on X: “What if she finds out Sarah killed Theo and for some reason decides to tell the police and it sends Sarah to prison.” Another worried viewer echoed: “Anyone else concerned that the thing Bethany does… is gonna be linked to Sarah and the Theo situation?”
To make matters even juicier, another scandalous rumor is floating around the green room: an impending, highly toxic affair between Bethany and Sarah’s detective boyfriend, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts). Either way, Bethany’s hands are about to get incredibly dirty.
“A Big Bag of Nerves”: Tina O’Brien on Being Weatherfield’s Newest Killer
While fans speculate on her character’s demise, actress Tina O’Brien has opened up about the massive relief of finally letting the killer cat out of the bag, admitting she was a total wreck on set.
“I’ve literally been a big bag of nerves! It’s really hard having to keep it quiet for that long, especially when you’re online and seeing all the chat on social media,” Tina confessed.
“Actually filming these scenes the weeks after have been the hardest thing I’ve ever filmed because I felt like my face looked guilty constantly and I was like, everyone’s going to know it’s me instantly. So that’s been really difficult.”
Despite the career risks of playing a soap murderer, Tina insisted she didn’t panic when bosses handed her the script: “I just was really excited to be given the honour of being the murderer, and then hopefully, however it plays out, I’ll enjoy Sarah’s arc.” But if the fan theories are correct, that arc is headed straight to a prison cell—courtesy of her own daughter!
