Finnian, who portrayed Ryan Power in the BBC daytime drama, was initially diagnosed with skin cancer in December 2021. After undergoing surgery to remove the cancer in early 2022, it seemed like he was on the path to recovery. But, just recently, Finnian shared an emotional update on social media, revealing that his cancer had progressed rapidly and is now deemed incurable.Finnian Garbutt

“I’m in the final stages of my life,” he wrote, detailing the pain he has been experiencing in his back and hip. After being admitted for scans, doctors confirmed that the cancer has spread, and Finnian’s prognosis is now terminal.

Sharing his news publicly, Finnian explained why he felt it was important to speak out: “I’m putting this out there, as it’s really difficult to tell people individually. I hope now that it’s in the open, I can spend the remaining time with my amazing family and friends.”

Reflecting on his journey since his diagnosis, the actor shared how much he’s achieved despite the hardships: “Since being diagnosed four years ago, I’ve hit so many of my life goals. I’ve starred in 30 episodes of a TV show, led a movie (which should be out soon), bought my own home, married my best friend, and became a father to an incredible baby girl who never fails to make me smile.”

He added: “Thank you to everyone who has reached out and supported me and my family over the years. If anyone wants to meet for a pint, coffee, or just to chat, please reach out, and I’ll try to make it work.”

Finnian is married to his wife Louise and is a proud father to his 17-month-old daughter, Saoirse.

Many of Finnian’s co-stars and friends have expressed their admiration and support. Hollyoaks and Ridley star Bronagh Waugh wrote: “Finn, you are some man for one man, my God. A breath of fresh air, the kindest human, and altogether amazing. We will speak your name Legend often and into the world so your girls and everyone who comes after you know what an impact you had on us. Sending you strength, love, and hugs.”

Hope Street co-star Luke Delaney also expressed his condolences: “Mate, I’m so sorry to hear this. I had no idea when we worked together, which just goes to show how strong and how much of a fighter you are. I’m thinking of you and your beautiful family during this heartbreaking time. If there’s anything I can do, don’t hesitate to ask. Sending all our love.”

Jack Marshall, a close friend, added: “Having worked with you and called you a close pal has been an honor. You’re truly an inspiration to so many and always a complete LEGEND. Would love nothing more than to have a pint with you, buddy. I don’t want our next meeting to be in Primark again.”
