“She Was Sobbing In Agony…” — DIY SOS Star Nick Knowles Shares EMOTIONAL Update On His Wife’s Painful Recovery After Life-Changing Surgery

DIY SOS’ Nick Knowles shared an emotional update about his wife’s recovery after complications during her life-changing surgery while on Monday’s episode of Lorraine.

The 63-year-old appeared on the ITV show to chat to the Scottish host, 65, about the brand new series of BBC‘s DIY SOS.

The 34th series of the programme, who is presented by Nick, returned to our screens last week.

But chat between the pair soon turned to Nick’s wife Katie, 35, after she was rushed to hospital last week after suffering with complications following her hysterectomy in July due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and endometriosis.

Nick said: ‘She had the massive operation not long after we were married and had a full hysterectomy and she’s been very public about, which is trying to help people along the way.

‘We’ve got hundreds of thousands of people paying attention to her journey through that.

‘Then she had a setback last week. She had to go in for a second really tough operation.’

Lorraine pointed out that Katie was in the studio watching from the sidelines to support Nick.

‘I cannot believe this woman is here! She is unbelievable.’

Nick continued: ‘We were in hospital this Saturday actually, so literally a few days ago.

‘But the combination of being restless and not doing as she’s told and staying, she’s supposed to be sitting in bed or sitting on the sofa not doing much, but getting bored.

‘To ease the boredom because she just won’t sit still because she works so hard. So she wanted to come.

‘Also the Lorraine family have been so fabulous to her along the way, as well as me, so she wanted to come along and say hi!’

According to the NHS, ‘Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common condition that affects how a woman’s ovaries work.’

What is PCOS? Causes, symptoms and treatment explained…

PCOS stands for polycystic ovary syndrome.

PCOS is a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.

Women with PCOS may have infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods or excess male hormone (androgen) levels.

Symptoms include menstrual irregularity, excess hair growth, acne, and obesity.

Fertility may also be affected.

While the exact cause of PCOS isn’t known, insulin resistance caused by a highly refined and processed diet is believed to be one of the biggest triggers.

PCOS can be managed through diet, the contraceptive pill and other oral medications.\

The three main symptoms are irregular periods, excess androgen and polycystic ovaries.

‘Endometriosis is where cells similar to those in the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other parts of the body. It can have a big impact on your life, but there are treatments that can help,’ according to the NHS.

On Saturday Nick revealed his wife Katie had been rushed back to hospital after lifesaving surgery last week.

The DIY SOS star took to social media on Saturday to update fans on Katie’s condition as he shared a hospital snap with his ill wife.

He penned: ‘Poor @katieaknowles back in hospital again.

‘More complications after her lifesaving surgery last week – but still smiling thru all the pain and medical procedures. (When she’s not crying with the pain).

‘I can’t tell you how much my wonderful wife has gone thru over the past few months – and I don’t mean just living with me – the medical procedures and painful recovery, the set backs and starting from square one again – and she does all this with enormous resilience and determination and the occasional cry.

Nick finished his gushing post writing: ‘I’m so proud of her.’

Katie was rushed into emergency surgery last week after suffering ‘crippling pain’ following her hysterectomy.

The lingerie business owner underwent the procedure in July this year after ‘surviving’ years of pain due to PCOS and endometriosis.

However, she suffered a major setback in her recovery 12 weeks after the surgery as she ended up in A&E.

She explained that where her cervix had been sewn up had ruptured, leaving her in pain, bleeding and close to passing out as she admitted it was the ‘most terrifying day I’ve ever had’.

After her successful surgery to stitch her back together she said she felt ‘sore, bruised and exhausted’ and was ‘gutted’ that her recovery had to start all over again.

Katie explained in a lengthy caption: ‘The bit where they took my cervix and sealed it up ruptured which basically meant my insides went rogue, with crippling abdominal pains, difficulty breathing, incredibly painful gas, blood like Moses parting the Red Sea, fluid, and even my bowel where it definitely didn’t belong.

‘Saturday when it happened I was in so much pain I couldn’t move or walk and just cried on my own on the kitchen from 2-5.30am. I nearly passed out from the pain.

‘Bar the exhaustion and menopause bit, the recovery was finally going well. I was pretty much back to normal – although I started working the day after my hysterectomy, so that clearly didn’t help.

‘I was rushed in for emergency surgery. I thought it would be lots of waiting round, but they did blood tests, a CT scan, and had me up & ready for surgery in under 10 hours.

‘There was talk of my bowel having been perforated, having to have open surgery & another lumbar puncture. I had every situation running through my mind and it was terrifying.

‘They had 3 plans for surgery, and two of them were huge. A team of 6 surgeons and 2 anaesthetists looked after me, and made me feel slightly more at ease, during what was the most painful & terrifying day I’ve ever had.

‘Thankfully the surgeons managed to get me back into theatre, fix everything and stitch me back together.

‘I’m very sore, bruised & exhausted, & so gutted that my recovery journey starts all over again now. But thankful it’s fixed, because the pain on Saturday night was excruciating!’

Nick and Katie married in June of this year during a lavish six-figure wedding at Braxted Park, Essex.

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
