Teddi Mellencamp is shifting her focus from the cameras to a monumental mission of the heart, and the urgency is palpable.

Days after the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alumna shared a sobering update regarding her ongoing battle with stage 4 melanoma, sources close to the star claim she is “racing against time” to solidify a $20 million charitable foundation dedicated to pediatric cancer research.
Teddi, 44, has reportedly begun the process of liquidating specific assets and reorganizing her estate to ensure that her impact on the medical community lasts far beyond her own lifetime, with insiders claiming her health is “rapidly fading” despite her brave public face.
“I think people will be surprised by the sheer scale of what Teddi is building right now,” a close family friend told Impact Magazine in a report shared on February 2. “Obviously, she’s a fighter, but she’s also a realist. She’s pouring every ounce of her energy into this legacy so her children can see the good she did in the world.”
“There’s so much love in this project. It’s both the hard part of facing her reality, but also it’s making this transition meaningful for her and her family,” the source added.
According to legal insiders, the centerpiece of this legacy is a structured endowment designed to trigger $200,000 yearly donations to top-tier cancer research facilities even after her passing.
“It started as a small idea for a scholarship, but as things progressed, she decided to go bigger,” a legal consultant admitted. “She’s in a big fight for her life, but she’s spending her days in meetings with accountants and hospital boards. It was like the worst kept secret in her inner circle that she was preparing for the worst-case scenario.”
“She wasn’t lying about the severity of her condition. She didn’t want to give fans false hope, so she’s focusing on the hope she can give to these children. Ultimately, she decided that if she can’t save herself, she’s going to help save as many others as possible,” the source continued.
Although there have been rumors that the stress of the project is taking a toll on her physical strength, Teddi confirmed the decision to launch the foundation was hers and hers alone.
“We decided to just rip the band-aid off and get the paperwork done,” she reportedly told a fellow cast member. “The last thing I was ever going to do is leave my family’s future or my philanthropic goals to chance.”
Regarding the “rapidly fading” reports, Teddi’s team has urged privacy while acknowledging that the road has become increasingly difficult in recent weeks.
“We don’t know what the future holds. There’s no playbook for this. We were very much on the same page as a family where we knew we needed to create this space and this security now,” her representative reasoned.
That said, Teddi is reportedly planning to make a series of filmed appearances to promote the foundation and explain the importance of early detection and research funding.
“She’s gonna do some press next week. She’ll do some video segments. This isn’t like a typical celebrity charity where it’s just a name on a building; she’s involved in every line item,” the source shared. “She still has her fire. She still loves her life, so in a world where it makes sense to keep fighting for a cause, she’ll keep fighting.”
Teddi then acknowledged the reality of her diagnosis during a private dinner with friends, mentioning that she wants to be remembered for her strength and her service rather than her illness.
“We don’t really plan to let the fear win,” she reportedly noted. “I just hope that we both find peace and that these kids find a cure, whatever the heck that looks like in the years to come.”
