In a short video filmed from her dressing room, Katie appeared wearing a bandage over her left eye as she prepared for the day, speaking with her trademark warmth and candour.

“Current situation,” she told fans. “It was planned eye surgery.”

But it was what she said next that truly resonated.

Katie’s life was irrevocably altered in March 2008 when she survived a horrific acid attack that left her blind in her left eye and caused devastating injuries to her face, neck, chest, and arms. Since then, she has endured countless complex and painstaking surgeries — a journey she has never hidden from the public, choosing instead to speak openly in the hope of helping others.

This latest procedure, she explained, is part of an ongoing process rather than a setback.

“It’s funny,” she admitted, smiling. “It’s got me thinking — I actually like being bandaged on this side.”

The comment, delivered lightly, carried deeper meaning.

Katie reflected that while she is at peace with how she looks, self-acceptance is not a fixed destination — but something that ebbs and flows.

“I’m happy in how I look,” she said. “Or maybe the right word is self-acceptance. Like any woman, I have good days and bad days. I think that’s just how we all are.”

The Loose Women star went on to make a striking observation about life with visible scars — one that many viewers described as heartbreakingly honest.

“One of the things about having a scar is never having a day off,” she explained. “But when I have this bandage on, it’s hidden — and I’m having a day off.”Katie Piper reveals her 'face is made from cow' after acid attack | Metro News

While some might assume the bandage would draw attention, Katie acknowledged that being stared at has long been part of her reality.

“To normal people, this might make you hyper-visible,” she said. “But people stare at me anyway. That’s been a thing forever — and I’m totally used to it.”

She also spoke candidly about her long-running struggles with her eye, revealing that the issue has persisted for 17 years — to the point where she once felt relief at the prospect of a prosthetic eye.

“Who’s happy about getting a glass eye?” she joked. “It sounds mental.”

Not about beauty — but peace

Crucially, Katie stressed that her reflections were not rooted in vanity.

“It’s not about beauty,” she said firmly. “It’s not about being attractive. Having that eye covered and out of the way is just… a day off.”

She added that the experience had unexpectedly taught her something new about herself.

“It’s funny how these things teach us so much,” she said. “Who would have thought I’d enjoy this situation? Maybe I’m just a weirdo!”

Fans flood in with love and support

Unsurprisingly, Katie’s comments section quickly filled with messages of admiration, love, and gratitude from fans who have followed her journey for years.

“You are one of the bravest people I know,” one follower wrote. “I’ve followed your journey from the beginning.”

Another added: “You inspire so many of us. You have the kindest, most gentle soul. Merry Christmas to you and all you love — you are an incredible woman.”

A third commented: “You are beautiful, talented, smart, and endlessly inspirational. Thank you for being you.”

Still standing — and still inspiring

Nearly 17 years after the attack that changed her life, Katie Piper continues to prove that healing is not about erasing scars — but about reclaiming peace, dignity, and joy on one’s own terms.

And with each honest update, she reminds countless others that strength doesn’t always roar — sometimes, it simply shows up, bandaged or not.
