Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) is Coronation Street’s newest killer. Now she’s going to prison… or is she?
If Coronation Street has taught us one thing over the past month, it’s that nothing is ever as it seems.
Out of the six Weatherfield residents under suspicion of murdering the diabolical Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), the answer to the question that had its viewers playing detective for weeks turned out to be… none of the above.
It wasn’t Theo’s long-suffering partner and victim Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce), nor was it his Todd’s mentor George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) his partner Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins). It sure wasn’t Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), even though she had a first class motive since Theo left her adoptive father to die. Despite the murderous resume of bad boy builder Gary Windass (Mikey North), he too is seemingly innocent of the crime, as is Theo’s bitter ex-wife, Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson).
No. The culprit was none other than Todd’s best friend and Weatherfield’s girl next door, Sarah Platt. At least, that’s what the evidence suggests.
On the night in question, Sarah was confronted by a raging Theo on the rooftop scaffolding above Coronation Street. When the raging sociopath threatened her life, she swung a metal pipe at the monster, accidentally sending him topping off the scaffolding and plummetingdown to his death on the Cobbles.

Horrified, Sarah panicked and called her ex Gary – who just so happens to have some practical experience in bumping people off.
Gary disposed of Theo’s body and helped Sarah cover up the blood deed, which explains why the two former flames have been looking so cosy lately.

Of course, that’s probably going to change now that Sarah’s fiancé, the less-than-honest copper DS Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) is encouraging her to pin the murder on Gary.
This of course, will go about as well as you could imagine. This is Soapland after all, and the Soap Gods demand justice. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that pretty soon, Sarah is going to be arrested for Theo’s murder and end up doing some hard time.
So that’s it? A legacy character of more than 23 years off to prison and off Coronation Street, just like that?
Seems a little sketchy to me, and I’m not the only one.
Diehard Corrie fans seem unconvinced that the Street will let such a beloved Weatherfield favourite depart the show for the sake of an utter rotter like Theo, and have been sharing theories on the Metro Facebook page. Curious, they all seem to point in the same direction – that Sarah isn’t really the killer.

‘I don’t think that she is a murdererI think someone else did it.’ writes one fan.
Another agrees. ‘Sarah thinks she’s killed Theo! Someone else maybe finished him off. Time will tell’.
This would make sense, and it would be the perfect way to get out of slapping Sarah with a murder charge. Of course, this brings the investigation back to square one. Whodunnit?
That’s where fans are a little more divided.
‘Ok ,she did what she did. But Jodie is the one who really killed him’one fan theorised.
Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) is a bold suspect choice, and it’s not entirely out of the realms of possibility. The bunny-boiling baddy has a habit of meddling in the lives of her fellow residents. That’s why she kept that weird box of stolen trinkets from her neighbours, the very same box she assaulted Sarah that night to stop her from telling anyone about.
Did Jodie stumble on Theo that night and finish the job. Shona’s twisted sister is capable of a lot, but is she capable of murder?

Another fan came to a different conclusion.
‘Sarah didn’t actually kill theo as he was still alive, it was Danielle’.
Hell hath no fury like an ex-missus scorned. We already know that Danielle was furious that Todd was going to get his hands on Theo’s life insurance. And she was on the Cobbles on that fateful night. Danielle’s a minor character in this story, but she was a suspect. The ex-wife being the killer would be a bit left field, but it’s certainly not impossible.

Finally, one fan gives us perhaps the most plausible and compelling theory of all.
‘Be a twist yet. I reckon Gary finished him off.’
You can picture it. Gary is disposing of the body when suddenly the monster splutters back to life. Knowing that he would come after Sarah, not to mention Todd, Summer and everyone else, Gary killed Theo to prevent him from doing any more harm. An act of protection. It’s very Gary Windass. Of course, it would leave Coronation Street with exactly the same problem they had before – losing a Weatherfield legend.
As soap theories go, the Second Murderer theory for the Theo Whodunnit is about as convincing as it gets. But will it come true?
